Based on the scores (out of ten) given each week to their own team's players.

Goalkeeper:

Dean Kiely (Portsmouth): 8.33

Defense:

Tony Hibbert (Everton): 9.00

Ledley King (Spurs): 8.50

Joseph Yobo (Everton): 8.50

Ricardo Gardner (Bolton): 9.00

Midfield:

Gary O'Neill (Portsmouth): 8.33

Mikel Arteta (Everton): 9.50

Michael Carrick (Spurs): 9.00

Julio Arca (Sunderland): 8.00

Forwards:

Thierry Henry (Arsenal): 9.25

Craig Bellamy (Blackburn): 8.67

Can anyone see the flaw in creating a team of the season out of fans voting for their team's players? Anyone? Anyone?

context here : the observer has an opinion from a fan of each team on their team's performance each week. so in effect it's a team of the season as voted for by 6-0-6 callers.

also remember that the reason everton players score so highly is that their expectation levels are that much lower.

This made me roar with laughter at Acton station when I read it.

That Everton nob who does the weekly scores always gives his own team extraordinarily high marks. Regularly gives Arteta 10/10 whereas the other team's supporters attempt to maintain a semblance of even-handedness.

I thought the Absurder might have had words, but no, seemingly....
