Benitez Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 dunno. But he came back into the dugout 2nd half, so hopefully nothing too serious, or he'd have gone to hospital. Hopefully we hear soon what he's done. Be gutted for him and us if he misses the final.
RedHarvest Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Anyone know?Only gone and become the finest passer of a ball and reader of a game in Europe
Swipe Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Has to be a good sign he was still in the stadium - never mind taking a seat on the dugout. Hopefully one of those injuries that hurt like hell and have you fearing the worst at the time - only to end up being nowt serious, no breaks and just a heavy knock. Fingers crossed. If nothings broken or torn, i reckon he'll play in final. He's a tough cookie and he'll put up with a bit of pain.
Alonso Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Liverpool's Xabi Alonso may miss the FA Cup final after landing awkwardly on his right ankle at Portsmouth. The incident happened after 39 minutes of the game as the 24-year-old Spain international launched himself into the air to control the ball. Midfielder Alonso was carried from the field and is thought to have twisted his ankle - bringing into question his availability for the final. Liverpool take on West Ham at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday. Rafael Benitez's team are already without the suspended Luis Garcia and Robbie Fowler, who is cup-tied. BBC
Dule Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 If it was really bad they would not let him walk around at all.
Swipe Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 If it was really bad they would not let him walk around at all. That's what I'm thinking. If it was bad would they let him get a shower, changed and walk out to sit on the bench? Come on Xabi! BBC Why are you quoting the BBC?? Tell us yourself - is your ankle ok???!!!
Mad_Fer_It Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Maybe he was scared because of his ankle injury he had last season... hope its nothing serious we seriously need him in the middle now that luis is banned...
Magic8Ball Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Rafa wouldnt say on Sky just now what was wrong with Xabihopefully that's just mind games

Guest The Chunk Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Just a sprain. It probably felt and looked a lot worse when he did it, and they wasted no time getting him off as a precaution. Probably bruised and a bit of swelling which will go down after a few days. Then it's all about how he responds to any training. Touch and go for next week.
Benitez Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Xabi Alonso will have a scan at Melwood on Monday to determine the extent of the injury to his right ankle that has made him a doubt for the FA Cup Final. Rafael Benitez confirmed Alonso feels confident that he will be fit for Cardiff but didn't want to make any predictions before the result of the scan. "Xabi thinks he will be fit for the final but we will have to wait and see what the result of the scan says," Benitez said. "The pitch was a little uneven and it is a problem with his right ankle but we will just have to wait. "The most important thing from today is we continued winning. We must be happy with the progression of the team this season but we know next year we need to improve a little bit if we want to win league titles. "To get 82 points is fantastic and we are a lot closer to Chelsea. We think we can do something more next season and we have more confidence." ere
Guest Jack Bauer Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I'd rather an injury to a player in center midfield than anywhere else tbh.
Andy @ Allerton Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Just heard an interview on Radio City from Rafa and he said that Xabi was 'optomistic'
Cooldude Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Great news that it ain't broken, if it's busted they would've immediately took him to hospital for scans At worst now, ligament strain/tear, but seeing the way he could limp around, it's more likely to be a badly twisted ankle or strain ligaments
Maldini Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Rafa said on Sky that he has "chances" of making it for next week
Bailo Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Rafa said on Sky that he has "chances" of making it for next week"chances" = "possibility"?
