Guest Cardie Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Must be loving his move to Arsenal. Wenger telling Sven to pick him in the England squad (but won't pick him for Arsenal), seems the only way he'll get a game in the short term is if the FA extend subs to 7 (which wouldn't be a bad idea) and they are well ahead of average opposition. ""I have wanted for years now to be able to name at least 18 players in my squad - and if I had the choice to have a player like Walcott more involved in the A-team then I would and he would certainly have come on. "For example, when you are 3-0 up at Sunderland rather than bringing on an older player I would say 'Okay, go on and have 20 minutes'. Then you could afford to do it. "
Stevie H Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 he's in no rush. although he must be looking at jermain pennant and wondering a bit.
Kahnee Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Back of today's Mirror is claiming Sven will name him in the provisional squad...
chrisbonnie Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Back of today's Mirror is claiming Sven will name him in the provisional squad... are you taking the piss? how the hell can some 16 year old thats never played a premiership get into the provisional squad?
Stevie H Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Back of today's Mirror is claiming Sven will name him in the provisional squad...seems like every informed commentator is saying that this morning. even the bbc's mike ingham seemed to think it was likely.
Cunny Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 that would be a feckng joke and a real kick in the teeth to a lot of established players
ChrisC Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 How old was Ronaldo at USA 94? He was there, just for the experience...
CarraLegend Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 It would be a farce but this is Sven and the FA so he'll probably come in and start every game alongside an unfit Owen and we'll be left wondering "What if" again after another defeat early in the tournament.
Stevie H Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 owen went to a world cup aged 18 and rooney went to euro04 aged 18. but they at least were playing regular, first-team premiership football.
Cobs Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 BBC website looks to have it about right Probable squad: Robinson, James, Green; G Neville, King, Campbell, R Ferdinand, Terry, Carragher, A Cole, Bridge; Beckham, Wright-Phillips, Gerrard, Lampard, Carrick, J Cole, Downing; Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Defoe, Bent. Stand-by: Carson, Hargreaves, Lennon, Walcott.
Falconhoof Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Is Anderson going then ? He has about as much experience as Walcott and he's won more medals. Farcical if Walcott is in that squad. Just when i thought my respect for Sven could get no lower.

Benitez Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Ashton, Harewood and our Robbie should be there before Walcott. It's ridiculous that he's even being considered!
Knox_Harrington Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Think it's a brave move which makes a change. Should have taken Robbie as fifth choice forward though.
The Hitman Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 annoys the f*** out of me that a centre-back as good as carragher is considered just as a back-up right-back. t***s.A joke isn't it,he's not a right-back or a left-back,he's a f***ing top class centre back. The Italians must think we're mad after seeing him last season.
Bailo Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Think it's a brave move which makes a change. Should have taken Robbie as fifth choice forward though.Never happen after Robbie slated SGE in his book. And Beckham.
Guest Red Mist Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Has Walcott played for Arsenal yet? It's crazy to take him to the WC. I'd rather Sven take Heskey.

Guest Anders Honoré Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 How old was Ronaldo at USA 94? He was there, just for the experience... He was 17. He had already proven himself in the Brazilian league though.
Gilps Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 he's back up right back, centre back and left backbit of a victim of his own versatility. Isn't Bridge back up left back? More centre halves than you'll ever need in that squad too (but then that happened in the 2002 squad too so we shouldn't be surprised). Right back is the only position where Carragher is the only back up, which suggest that that's what is seen as his primary role.
Cobs Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 might be but i'd have him as 1st choice back up to either CB, to Cole at LB and so Bridge is only there if Neville gets injured too
Gilps Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 might be but i'd have him as 1st choice back up to either CB, to Cole at LB and so Bridge is only there if Neville gets injured too Me too. Which means we're likely to be overstocked with centre halves again. Unless something happens to two full backs, I can't see how you need both Campbell and King. Unless King is there just to cover Carrick as holding midfielder, a position that might not get used anyway. Think you could free up more options out wide or upfront that might actually change a game by dropping one of Campbell or King.
