Benitez Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 He gets a free ticket for the final - that'll be handy for him now. Garcia takes the prizeTuesday, 02 May 2006. Liverpool's Luis Garcia has taken the accoloade as the final 'Player of the Round' of this season, after his performance for the Reds in their enthralling victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford. The Spaniard has also made further FA Cup history along with team-mates Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard. It is the first time that three players from the same club have won the Player of the Round award in successive rounds. Garcia's outstanding half-volley proved decisive in Liverpool's victory over Chelsea, for although at the time of his strike the Reds were looking comfortable Jose Mourinho's men managed to make it a tight finish that could have sent the game into extra-time. You can watch his fantastic winning goal, and all the rest of the action from a sensational Semi-Final, by clicking on the links above. Garcia was an outright winner, polling over 37 per cent of the 49,714 votes cast on TheFA.com. Yossi Benayoun attracted 27 per cent of the vote, with Alonso trailing on twenty per cent and Marlon Harewood on 14 per cent. He will be presented with an engraved silver salver and also wins £1000 worth of UMBRO football kit for a local school, club or organisation of his choice. VIP attendance at The 125th FA Cup final is also guaranteed. Garcia is the tenth and final player to make the team (Paul Brayson won the award twice in separate rounds) and the fourth from the Premiership to join The FA?s Team of The FA Cup this season ere
Coyler Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Can we clear up this horrid mess for once and for all. To me, a "half-volley" is a ball you hit just as it's bouncing up off the ground, cf tennis, cricket, etc. It is not a ball that has bounced three seconds ago.
matty Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 That's just bizarre. He was utterly gash for virtually the entire match.

Owen1978 Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 That's just bizarre. He was utterly gash for virtually the entire match. Thats the power of internet voting, he was 12% behind benyoun when someone posted the link up, but the end of the day luis was 2% ahead.

To me, a "half-volley" is a ball you hit after it has bounced - one second, two seconds, three seconds ago .. who really cares? But I see your point, mate!

As kid there were always arguments about half-volleys as well, to some it was as it was touching the group, others said if it bounced once and others said it was as the ball was rising, as opposed to dropping.

But I see your point, mate! nah I'd have to disagree with ya there, a half volley is called that because of the connection you get on the shot as a result of it just having bounced, ya know the way it gets that extra bit of power or something.... half volley is immediately after the bounce, no seconds about it.
HeWonItFromBrock Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 To me, a "half-volley" is a ball you hit after it has bounced - one second, two seconds, three seconds ago .. who really cares? But I see your point, mate! What you've described is simply kicking the ball. I'm in the immediately after it has bounced camp- so that it just misses out on being a volley. Whilst we're on the subject some commentators/journalists describe a shot hit first time (ie Garcia v Chelsea, Juve) as a volley. Crazy!
