Rory Fitzgerald Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I know some people fit into the "I couldnt give a flying ****" category but I would be interested on how this is being covered by the media, apart from the world is going to end. How do people think England will line up ? Robinson Neville Ferdinand Terry Carra/Cole/Bridge ........Beckham....Carrick Gerrard.......Lampard.........Cole .................Crouch...................... PRO's - With the exception of Carrick, all midfielders and striker have played in this system- Plays to strenghts of SG/FL/JC- SG/FL and JC in very good form- Solid team with designated holding player in Carrick and to some extent Beckham Given the doubts over Owen, he may not be able to play 90mins for 3 games in the space of 8-10 days. Do people and the media in general view this as the possible team/formation ? Thanks for the input, Signed: Curious Irishman
Coyler Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Curious? Traitorous, more like. Patrick Pearse didn't get to where he is to-day wondering about England's formation for the World Cup, a mhic ó... f.w.i.w. Sven needs to grow a pair of slobs and get rid of Ferdinand (Carra) and Beckham (anybody... have a go with a kid like Lennon or something), try and make it look like he watches games instead of just reading lists of names. Not that I give a rat's bum.
Leo No.8 Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Hello Rory my old mate, how are things? Well my curious Irish friend, my formation would be: ---------------------------------Robinson---------------------------------- Neville--------------Terry------------------Ferdinand----------------A.Cole ---------------------------------Beckham----------------------------------- Lennon----------------------------------------------------------------J.Cole --------------------------------Lampard------------------------------------- -------------------------Gerrard--------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------Owen--------------------------------------- I'd prefer to use Crouchie as a last half hour kind of weapon, and if Rooney doesn't make it I'd like to see Gerrard just off the front man. I'd prefer Carra to the inreliable Ferdinand, but lets face it, it isn't going to happen, so I've put the big dope in anyway. My shock inclusion would be Lennon; I think he ticks all the right boxes to be a big success at a major international tournament, the same way Owen and Rooney were. He is practically unknown outside England, full of confidence, in fantastic form and has the kind of pace and skill which will take defenders by surprise. Sven isn't one to take risks so I can't see it, but if I was the boss I'd throw the young lad in and play Beckham in the holding role behind Lampard...

Kahnee Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Hello Rory my old mate, how are things? Well my curious Irish friend, my formation would be:---------------------------------Robinson----------------------------------Neville--------------Terry------------------Ferdinand----------------A.Cole---------------------------------Beckham----------------------------------- Lennon----------------------------------------------------------------J.Cole --------------------------------Lampard--------------------------------------------------------------Gerrard-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Owen--------------------------------------- In that formation, I'd drop beckham for Carrick. Suspect Sven will do similar, but move goldenballs to and have Lennon on the bench
Leo No.8 Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 In that formation, I'd drop beckham for Carrick. Suspect Sven will do similar, but move goldenballs to and have Lennon on the bench Carrick is having a good season, and has been outstanding lately. However Beckham has also been doing well in a poor Madrid side, and he does have loads of experience of international tournaments. So if I were to throw the young lad in on the right, I wouldn't want to lose the skipper so would shift him in the holding role, which he can do well. Of course you'd also miss his delivery from dead-ball situations.
Spoone Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 ------------Robinson----------Neville---Carra----Terry---Cole-------------Carrick------------Beckham-----------------Cole----Gerrard-------Lampard------------------Owen--------------- I think that allows every player in the team to play to his/her/garynevilles strengths. No need for 2 up front with Carrick holding both Stevie and Flumpard will both have license to get in the box and can both score as many as any striker. J Cole can add the flair that we'll miss from Rooney, Neville and Beckham can hold hands down the right.
Coyler Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 But Lennon is going to declare for Ireland if he doesn't make the world cup squad. Are you having me on? Little f*ckstick. Lennon for England, a.s.a.p., then.
Boca Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Are you having me on? Little f*ckstick. Lennon for England, a.s.a.p., then. He has an Irish granny and in the Jack Charlton... er sorry Steve Staunton era this means you must declare for Ireland. Chris Hughton has already approached him.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted May 2, 2006 Author Posted May 2, 2006 Good to hear from you Leo, hope things are well and Portly is behaving. The one major Con to my team was the omission of Owen. As much as I dont like Holt in the MIRROR, he made a very salient point. Eriksson will have to earn his huge salary now.
Woodsyla Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I wouldn't want to lose the skipper so would shift him in the holding role, which he can do well. Have to say this is the most factually inaccurate statement I've ever seen Beckham in the holding role, surely some mistake.
Earl Hafler Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Anyone who wants Beckham to play in the anchor role - ahead of Ferdinand - should book themselves in for an MRI scan. Rory and Leo
Leo No.8 Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Seen him do it just fine for Madrid a few times gents - can't understand the outrage...
Boca Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Anyone who wants Beckham to play in the anchor role - ahead of Ferdinand - should book themselves in for an MRI scan. Rory and Leo You were doing fine until you mentioned Ferdinand in the holding role. What has he done to prove he can play there at international level ?
Earl Hafler Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I meant who would want to play Beckham as a holding player infront / ahead of Ferdinand as a central defender.

Boca Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I meant who would want to play Beckham as a holding player infront / ahead of Ferdinand as a central defender. Oh right Sorry bud.
CarraLegend Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Dont think we've got any defensively great holding players, Carrick is good at sitting deep and knocking it about but defensively isnt up to much, Beckham defensively is laughable and he doesnt seem capable of sticking to one position anyway, Gerrard is wasted there, King proved he isnt up to it against Argentina, he looked lost which isnt surprising, Parker is probably best at just getting in the way and breaking things up but isnt as good distribution wise as Carrick. Depends what you want I suppose.
Leo No.8 Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 (edited) Good shout that Scott Parker - forgot him! He'd actually be my first choice for the holding role, leaving Beckham on the right and Lennon as an impact sub along with Crouchie. Knew there was someone I was forgetting. I suppose I'd counted him out as he doesn't seem to have been involved, but I'd prefer him to Carrick myself... Edited May 2, 2006 by Leo No.8
Guest Red Mist Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 We need to get the central mid sorted. With fat boy out, this area could be sorted. Fat Frank along with Carrick would be my choice. Stevie would play further up field, supporting the main striker. Joe Cole on the left and Becks on the right, and the team is sorted. No need to panic about Rooney's absence. Without him the team will need to rely on themselves rather than Rooney, which is normally the case when he plays.

Weird how Sven keeps playing others out of position there yet ignores a player who's been playing really well there for his club.
Boca Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Is Parker not injured ? Seems strange that he is not being mentioned in the media as a possible squad member.

Ridiculous that he would have been in the pecking order ahead of Carrick and Parker.
CarraLegend Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Is Parker not injured ? Seems strange that he is not being mentioned in the media as a possible squad member. Yep, forgot about that one mate. He got Glandular Fever I think, hope he's getting better, I had that and it was f***ing evil. Made me guffaw when there were tears being shed for Alan Smith's World Cup dream being shattered when he broke his leg. Ridiculous that he would have been in the pecking order ahead of Carrick and Parker. Was funny. Nearly as funny as Kieron "Absolutely despised by my own fans because i'm so s*** and i'm a Man Utd substitute" Richardson being a regular squad member now.
