Hansen and Lawrenson are hypocrits

On MOTD the Brain's Trust of Lineker, Hansen and Lawrenson were reviewing the England manager's debacle. Fair enough. They were all shrugging their shoulders and tutting and nodding their heads, much as we all have done.

Then Lawrenson's comment (I think) took the biscuit. Referring to the FA Appointments Panel, he said;

"The thing is, from the moment they announced they were going to make an early decision ... before the World Cup ... they were in trouble. Why couldn't they just leave it?"

Hansen grunted his agreement.

A reasonable enough statement one might think but this flew in the face of Hansen's advice a fortnight ago on the same programme when he said,

"Why don't they just get on with it? We all know there's a vacancy. We all know the candidates. All this speculation is damaging. Just make the decision and let's get on with the World Cup."

Hansen and Lawrenson are fast becoming media talking heads.

hang on a minute.

Hansen had one opinion, Lawrenson had one that disagreed with it. Thats all.

You say Hansen 'grunted' his agreement, he may well have not agreed with what lawrenson was saying, he's hardly going to wrestle him to the studio floor and demand he takes it back is he. MOTD has never been a forum for debate.

People are way to harsh on Lawrenson and as for the stick that Jocky has been getting lately, people need to get a grip.

Does it really matter?

The two positions aren't mutually exclusive. You can agree with Lawrenson that they shouldn't have announced that they would appoint a new man before the tournament. You can also agree with Hansen that once they did decide to appoint before the tournament they'd be better off getting it over and done as quickly as possible.

I just don't get the grief Jocky gets on here sometimes. I love the man.

And he clearly still loves Liverpool.

regardless of what else is said, the above is true - if you think about it, it rules them out of going for the best candidate who may be managing someone else - kind of stupid to promise that really

all because they have a different opinion to you?

I don't get the grief most of our ex players get on all Liverpool forums.

it is because they do not give unlimited praise and enthusiasm for Liverpool. People tend to forget that these guys are pundits for the whole country and all of the clubs, not just Liverpool. if they were all over Liverpool in a positive way, they would be yanked off the TV.

we will have some ex players who enthuse about everything Liverpool, they will be the ex players on local radio.

Jocky actually admits that he is overly critical of Liverpool at times when he's doing punditry, almost to compensate the fact that people expect him to be biased for us. At least he's honest about that!

Hansen is a legend as a player but you just can't spout some of the nonsense he has and expect people to take him seriously. Still knows his stuff but strikes me as too sensionalist sometimes for his own good, without considering the audience.

Lawro is just a comedy figure for me.

I just see him as that aging hippy on a floating rug, in that Alastair McGowan sketch.

WTF?

One poster even felt he/she was able to fathom out what my opinion was

The point I was making has absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with Hansen and Lawrenson being former Liverpool players.

I was pointing out that some weeks ago they both were urging the FA to conclude the deal. When the FA tried to do so and failed, Hansen AND Lawrenson then both agreed that it was a doomed venture because the FA were trying to close the deal before the World Cup and it should have been left till late Summer.

This is media verbal gymnastics and, imo, shows how imbibed they are as media talking heads.
