CarraLegend Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Wonder if some people will stop saying this now after he helped keep our lead in tact yet again today? I doubt it.
Clay Davis Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 why is it not? he had a v. good game today, hes a class goalie and time will show that.
CarraLegend Posted April 29, 2006 Author Posted April 29, 2006 So not a great idea for a thread then? This thread get to you a bit seeing as you were one of the whoppers on his back eh?
stressederic Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 The mark of a top class goalkeeper is being able to concentrate all game when you've got nothing to do only to have to pull off an absolutely crucial save. Reina's done it many times this season.

Reina's done it many times this season. Spot on, the lad is absolute class. Bailed us out or kept the score down a hell of a lot of times now. And he goes mental when we score Edited April 29, 2006 by CarraLegend
hideNseek Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 World class goalie................................and now your going to believe us.
Benitez Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Anyone got a picture of Moro carrying Pepe round the ground today? Pepe is 'kin class, simple as that really, top quality goalie blokey. Muy bueno sweeper keeper.
WelshSpikeMikey Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Immense save from Barry's deflected shot today. And don't let anyone kid you otherwise, letting the ball hit his heel was immense skill and not at all a misjudgement because of the sunshine.
Guest Red Mist Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 What the heck happened to our defence today? Watching the highlights we were all over the place at the back, gifting Villa a few chances. Hopefully that was a one-off.

Lack of concentration more than anything, some will blame Traore but Hyypia was at fault a good few times today. Luckily we've got Pepe.
Paul Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 He's been excellent this season but you can maybe undertand some people being wary considering how Dudek and his predecessor turned out. If he plays aswell next season I'm sure all doubts will be dispelled.
RedNik Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 I wouldn't call him world class yet. He's definitely a great keeper though. Has good distribution, plays like a sweeper as well and is a wonderful shot stopper. He however needs to improve the way he deals with crosses - corners and such. Sometimes, he is caught flapping at them.

Live by the sword, die by the sword I guess?
JonShar Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 It's funny to me that people complain that he "flaps" sometimes. Punching a ball is just as hard a skill as volleying a ball, and I can't think of many players who can volley a ball effectively 100% of the time, let alone when they're under pressure from 2 or 3 opponents. Pepe punches effectively the majority of the time, we should be more than happy with that.

Guest Cardie Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 hes a class goalie and time will show that. Time has already shown that. Big test will be next season now.
Guest Cardie Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 What would you class as being tested? Doing a Casillias and having to bale the team out time after time? He plays the job of sweeper and when he's needed to make a save he does it even if he's had little to do all game. People think he does nothing because he's not diving around everywhere when the fact is he's not doing that because he's identifying the danger before it get's there.

Guest Cardie Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Sarcasm shoul be banned so early on a sunday, takes too much thinking to get through it.
Walrus Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 I remember a time when there was a big discussion about Rio Ferdinand missing his test as well. Got a long ban too, didn't he?

Has Pepe missed a test? - ah I get it now, pay attention to the title, doh! I think he's the first keeper we've had since Bruce to dominate his area. Part of the strength of the back 4 has been down to the confidence they have in him. Edited April 30, 2006 by le2red
Guest FrankH Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 djimi traore on the left is what happened to our defence. Yeah cos Traore forced Hyypia to make those couple of mistakes..
