Liverpool have been linked with shock move for Juventus midfielder Patrick Vieira, according to reports in Italy.

The former Arsenal captain is believed to favour a return to the Premiership, having failed to recapture his sparkling form when with the north Londoners.

The Reds have reportedly made an enquiry for the French international, and Juve director Luciano Moggi may be open to selling the player.

Swap for Gerrard obviously.

People can scoff at Viera all they like but how are they going to fill if and when United sign him, to plug their 'gap' ?

United sign their 'new Veron'? ;)

Honestly think his best years are behind him. Good player still but no where near the force he once was.

Wenger pulled a very clever move getting rid when he did. He was clearly not the player he used to be in his last season at Highbury. He hasn't been the same player while at Juve.

His career peaked some time ago and he won't have many seasons left on the clock.

He'd improve United's midfield yeah but not massively and not for very long.

He's been decent/average for 2 seasons so I wouldnt give a s****. He had a good start at Juve to be fair for the first few months.

Let's put it this way, I'd rather they signed him than Diarra.

Well I haven't seen enough of Diarra to comment, but I do know Viera hasn't suddenly gone from being more or less the world's top player in his position to redundant overnight. It's not as if he's 38, or that sort of age.

Crap story, crap boring no-mark website. It still has a "Liverpool interest in Fowler" headline. Come on people, get a clue before posting this dog turd.

Don't know what "Silly season" means then?

I've got a theory on this but can't be bothered now.

agree he hasn't the legs to be what he once was. but he was still managing to be pretty good for juve early in the season.

he could still be a very useful premiership footballer if motivated and judiciously used.

whether i'd take him over didi next season is a tough call. surely that would be the scenario?

Swap for Momo? I personally think Momo's s***. What has he won compared to Vieira :bleh:;)

2 cups?....oh aye much more important than the league...id forgotten that rewriting of importance :bleh:;)

I honestly believe Momo is already way ahead of where Vieira was at the same age.

Also, I get fed up with the media ranting about Makalele too. Momo is much more effective IMO. I've never changed my opinion so greatly and so quickly as much as I have with Momo. He's been one of the most impactful LFC signings in years.

 Thanks Neil, that made my day. Perhaps the post of the year. :D

Cheers.

Now I can be a bit.

I reckon that the way in which the game has speeded up, especially in this country but also in Spain and other northern European countries, has meant that players who play in forward or midfield positions are peaking much earlier than thought before. Normally we'd say a centre mid peaks around 29. Now I'd say it's closer to 26. One bad injury takes it out of them, but so does accumulated fatigue of playing a large number of games at a very quick pace. It's why it's crucial we see Gerrard as a centre mid going into next season and look after his legs, not just for one season but for the remainder of his career, by rotating intelligently with Sissoko rather than thinking "Jesus, who's going to play where?" "f*** it, Stevie can just play right all season."

Makelele can still stroll through games as he always did but Vieira while an intelligent player isn't the same player and has put his body under a great deal of stress and so can't explode in quite the same way. Some players can obviously reinvent themselves but I think it's becoming the rule rather than the exception.
