LIVERPOOL FC is heading for the high court claiming Reebok owes them nearly £7m.

The club issued formal proceedings against its former kit supplier after failing to reach an agreement on outstanding payments.

A solicitor acting for Liverpool FC and Athletic Grounds plc filed a writ in the Queen's Bench Division against Reebok International Limited.

Neither Liverpool FC or Reebok would comment, but the ECHO has learned the dispute revolves around a two-month delay in the production and availability of the team's current away strip and Champions League kit.

Liverpool was due to renew the deal with sponsors Carlsberg last March, but nothing was signed until last May - preventing the immediate release of the white strip after the Reds' Istanbul triumph.

Reebok claimed that two-month delay cost it £6.75m and withheld that sum from the club. The white strip was eventually released in July, two months behind schedule, and the Champions League kit in November.

But Liverpool FC claims all the fans would have bought the strip, regardless of the delay. Forensic accountants for the club are pouring over any evidence Reebok have.

It is believed Reebok will counter by saying thousands of fans or stockists did not manage to buy the strip.

Liverpool are also claiming interest on the unpaid amounts, meaning their final claim could rise to around £8m.

Reebok has now ceased production of the strips and stopped supplying kit merchandise to Liverpool's club store.

Best not to give them any ammunition to throw at us in court. Do everything by the book.

Wonder why it took until May to sign the deal with Carlsberg? And wonder if they will be named in proceedings as well.

we were in talks with somebody else, they broke down at a late stage, and we resigned with Carlsberg

So we are taking Reebok to court and next season we'll play in an Adidas strip......but Adidas now own Reebok so how does that work?

Adidas may own Reebok, but it doesn't mean they're in bed together - they still compete etc.

So for the sake of argument lets just say that Reebok is now a subsidiary of Adidas but given that we're with Adidas next year it still doesn't make sense to sue them.

Not saying that we shouldn't get the monies we are owed but just surprised that its got to the court stage.

No, he's UNchartered.

A special expedition organised by Liverpool City Council and led by Sir Chris Bonington set out in 1978 to scale his south face. But they had to turn back just before they reached his @rse.
