Dan Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 It reeks of Wimbledon to me. Preparation for games like this is so much harder for the favourites. None of the neutrals will be giving them a chance and on their day they can be a quality side. They've also got the small matter of destiny on their side this year. Would much rather be playing Boro who are just plain gash.
Guest PaulMcC Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I wa sthinking about Wimbledon as well. Everyone i've spoke to thinks we'll stroll to victory.
Hightown Phil Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I'm more thinking of the fact that Lyall and Greenwood have both died this season. That means "Name on the Cup".
Rory Fitzgerald Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Yes ! Last year in the CL final it was us who was the Hammers yet we never contemplated defeat. They will be the same. It will be a very close game and I would love for us to come out with the cup but it will be no stroll
psl Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 (edited) Why do they have 'destiny on their side'? Because Alan Pardew said so? Or are you referring to the 'do it for Lyall' sentiment? I think they're a good side who will give absolutely everything and thereby give us a very good game. However, if we play to the best of our ability then we should definitely win. I don't think Rafa or Stevie would allow anyone to get complacent and I don't really think many of our players would anyway. We haven't beaten United and Chelsea to let things slip in the final without a fight, regardless of who we're playing. Edited April 24, 2006 by psl

Herbie von Smalls Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 it'll be interesting to see what kind of a side pardew fields on wednesday. methinks he may try a little bit of gamesmanship by picking a 'weaker' team to give Rafa as little insight as possible into how they will cope with us on the big day.

Gomez Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 have you read what our players are saying? Complacency is somethin I am not worried about Best defence and midfield in the country. Complacency isn't a problem we usually suffer from. As long as our attitude is right - which I don't doubt for a second - then our class should prevail. But I can't imagine that we are going to be complacent, not for one second. Not saying we will be complacent, just that it is our biggest threat. If we go into this with the right attitude, we WILL win and there will nothing west ham can do about it no matter how up for it they are. The only chance they have is if we don't go into it in the right frame of mind. (or a bent ref like Japan) We were complacent against CSKA and it nearly cost us, and we were complacent againts Benfica and it did cost us, so it's not unheard of.

Archangel Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 They'll freeze and we'll win comfortably Though having said that what West Ham have acheived since doing 'a leeds' a couple of seasons back is real credit to the set up down there Could be a genuine classic
Gomez Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 we werent cpmplacent against Benfica ffs I'd say resting Gerrard in the first leg could be called complacent.
Dan Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 A lot of fans were complacent against Benfica. Sh*te finishing was ultimatley why we went out though.
Guest redkopite Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 it will be a tough game and no stroll but i think we will sneak it 2-1 or 2-0
Mike Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 its a f***ing cup match. upsets happen.we need to play them like we are playing barca and that is all there is to it
Guz Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 It's a cup final and upsets happen. Yup. But we've just beaten Chelsea ffs, we're 3rd in the league, we were the european champions. We have the best manager in Europe and the PFA player of the year as our captain, to name but a few things going for us. Lighten up ffs.

Guest lollyfi Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 why can't we spend a the next few wks enjoying what we've achieved and if we lose deal with it then not before .....i imagine the team will spend the next few weeks thinking positively and so should we....if we lose then we'll wring our hands but till then can't we just be f*cking happy!!!! still euro champs, doing well in league in fa cup final against a team we WILL (we could lose but theres no point focusing on it is there???) beat and our club is being recognised at all levels including PFA for stevie. enjoy the good times
Mike Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 in fa cup final against a team we WILL beat i despise this attitude.
Guz Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 (edited) don;t ffs me pal. you lighten up when you've won it, not before. that's the liverpool way. Whats the point worrying? The game isnt for another 3 weeks, we have huge reason to be optimistic and we're on the back of a fa cup semi final win, our opponents are irrelevent to me at the moment, I'm in such a good mood. I'm not saying it'll be easy or that we WILL win. No cup final or game against premiership opposition is easy but I dont get concerned about playing a midtable side in 3 weeks time, so I see no reason to get so concerned about the final now when we have so much going for us right now. Cup semi final wins don't come along every week (nor do 8 wins on the bounce), enjoy it while it lasts I say. Edited April 24, 2006 by Guz
Mike Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 im not worried and i don't advocate worrying i just don't like people saying we will win easily etc.
Guz Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 im not worried and i don't advocate worrying i just don't like people saying we will win easily etc. Nor do I, which is why I didn't say we will because s*** like that only comes back to bite you in the a***.
Maldini Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 They'll come to play football, leave space in midfield and Xabi and Stevie will rip them apart on the big pitch.
