Bootle Buck Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Saturday emphasized the difficulty in keeping a very large squad satisfied and effective. Granted in the league the bigger squad will generally endure over a whole season However, in key games it is obviouis Queenie has not been able to outfox Rafa(twice) and Rijkkard. To think in such an important game you have no room for Joe Cole (who has been our nemisis) 10 millionDamian Duff 17 millionSWP 20 million Robben 12 millionCech 8 millionCarvalho 20 millionGudjohnsen (he wouldn't have played anyway) This clearly shows the greed and arrogance the Chavs have shown in snapping up anything that moves for overinflated prices. Eventually this will cause dissention amaongst the ranks and a turnover that will make a McDonald's franchise look stable. I think many more stars will follow the likes of Parker and Bridge out the door for a fraction of what was paid for them.
cochyn Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I think Chelsea will have trouble getting rid; I'm guessing arsenal/ manu/ us are the preferred destinations for the Chelsea 'outcasts' but there's no way they'd be sold to rivals at a snip. So that leaves continental clubs - Many top-ranking teams will be looking to re-stock this summer (Madrid, both Milan teams, Bayern) again, would Chelsea sell to their continental 'rivals?' Which leaves the middle-ranking teams - can you see the likes of Gudjonsen, Cole and Carvallo willingly wanting to play for them at reduced wages? I'm taking a flyer here, but this summer could prove to many prospective Chelsea acquisitions that money aside, a move to Chelsea could spell career-death.
_00_deathscar Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 The difference between Benitez and Mourinho is that Mourinho (as much as he may achieve during his time there) will leave a bunch of players with no team morale, a disjointed club in ruins...whereas Rafa will leave a legacy.
Crazy Horse Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 I'll boldly predict now that Abramovich has bought his last title. No more after this season.
Cunny Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 (edited) Mourinho's record in the transfer market is staggeringly poorall their best players are still Ranieri buys or academy players (Cech, Terry, Gallas, Makelele, Lampard, Cole, Robben, Duff, Godjohnsen), you can credit Maureen with coaching them to greater performances but the money he has spent on dross is incredible FerrieraCarvalhoEssienDrogba Chelsea paid at least twice their true worth for all of them and none of them have been unqualified successesTiago was a better player for them than Essien. TBF, despite the crazy fees - Drogba and Carvalho are well suited to Maurenho's style, and have played a big role in their last 2 seasons, so I wouldn't say they where poor buys at all. They are integral to his team set up. Ferreira on the other hand, has been kept out the side by Geremi recently, which is some insult! And also Del Horno has been very poor, which surprised me a bit, cos I thought he was a really good player, but he's really struggled at Chelsea, and looks a weak link.
