Alonso 7 -vstrolled the ground like a titan and did his part to perfection, but nothing really beyond that

Sissoko 6- Ran about alot to close options but not enough clean sucessful tackles for me

Finnan - 7, see Reina

Sami - 8, Superb

Carra - 7, see Finnan

Riise - 7, scored the goal but defensively was a little suspect, most of Chelsea's play at the last 25 minutes came on his flank.

Kewell - 9, MOTM, HK of old

Xabi - 8, took Lampard to the cleaners again

Momo - 7, never stopped running and some good challenges

Gerrard - 7, worked hard but didn't really get into the game that much, when he did he had a few good moments

Luis - 8, what a pearler, loves scoring big goals in big games, and loves missing sitters then score the difficult one. That's Luis for ya and that's why I love him

Crouchzinho - 7, did alright, winning headers and flick ons and generally worked hard

I don't think you can mark reina down for the goal too much. It was riise's error. Maybe he should have stayed back, but its difficult to blame him for going for it.

 

 

Cisse 1 - what is about him and old trafford? Doesn't matter really, cause he's getting sold and we won, but his lack of effort was a disgrace.

Reina 6 - dodgy decision for the goal

Carragher 8- Brilliant as always

Hyypia 9 - Feckin IMMENENSE! All those punts into Drogba had me heart missing beats, but this fella dealt with almost everything thrown his way.

Riise 8 - Good workrate, got the goal and apart from the botched header was very good.

Gerrard 6 - Blew hot and cold but did his job defensively towards the end.

Alonso 7 - Solid enough and was very good with possession as usual.

Sissoko 7 - Ran his socks off and was right up there in the thick of it.

Kewell 10 - MOM! Beat players and was just absolute quality imo.

Garcia 7 - Thought he was wasteful at the beginning but then he pops up with an absolute beaut!! You CANT dislike him, even if you try!

Crouch 6- Nothing special but nothing bad either.

 

Cisse 4 - Tada

Mori 6 - Nothing to do but did work hard towards the end. Liked the persistence when he tackled Makelele.

Traore 5 - Didnt mess up which is a positive I suppose....

Garcia, apart from the goal, he was sh*te. but hey, if he does that often enough, it's worth it.

 

Ref: Could have been worse, but gave some poor decisions. Couldn't get over the Carragher booking, our first was never a free kick, but theirs should have been pulled up earlier as well. All in all, it could have been worse.

Reina 7 - Did well until the goal, personally i think he should have kept his line, but Riise did hang him to dry out there.

Finnan 7 - not a bad performance did nothing wrong, but didn't hear his name much to be honest.

Carra 7 - solid performance but definitely nothing special by his standards

Hyypia 6 - Played well but he's aging and it's starting to show granted it is the end of a long season.

Riise 8 - Brilliant on the free kick, one of the best i've seen in a while, only bad thing was the header that set up drogba's goal.

Alonso 7 - Did enough but again nothing special tonight.

Momo 7.5 - Went hard for the full 90, some nice hard tackles, great presence out there today

Kewell 9 - MoM in my opinion, Did everything he had to but score.

Gerrard 6 - At times found myself wondering if he might have had mind on the World Cup as he didn't seem to go in hard as much.

Crouch 5 - Personally I don't rate him anyway, but today i thought he should have had a couple of those chances, especially on the collison, that should have been a goal.

Garcia 7.5- Goal was fantastic, but other than that, the same little luis coughing up possesion1

Cisse 6 - Didn't do much, but had nothing to do, got no service once he came on and really did ok with what he had.

Traore 6 - Scared me to death when he was brought on, and I do rate him, but for the life of i couldn't help thinkin he might have a c**k up

Mori 6.5 - Ran around a menaced their defence when they had the ball back there.He never looked like scoring but neither did any of our forwards today.

 

Overall- We played out of our skin in the first half, but wet the bed after the goal in the second, I honestly thought they were gonna get a late goal from that last corner, thankfully I was wrong I had a the same feeling as I got before rio's goal in the United match. But hey we won, time to celebrate. Now bring on West Ham (hopefully) Oh and one more bit, I don't get the hostility towards Cisse, what was he supposed to do when we couldn't keep the ball for more than 5 seconds in the last 15. It rarely got passed midfield let alone up to him or Moro...

Yes the wall was poor, especially with that t*** lampard shying away from it, but still Keeper had no chance, and he put it through them. What more could you ask for? It isn't as if he's Roberto Carlos or anything who could curl it round the whole stadium and put it in the net.

Reina's dodgy decision? Easier said!. Allow a pop at goal from an excellent position or going all out and trying to nick the ball (he almost did it) before the striker hits the ball? The BBC made me laugh: " it was Carra's ball", when he was yards behind the play and never got there.

Reina - 6 - what we've come to expect. Steady. Unlucky with the goal - he made a decision and it didn't quite work out.

 

Finnan - 6 - another consistent performance

 

Carragher - 6.5 - struggled at times with the straight ball into Drogba but going back towards goal there is no one better

 

Hyypia - 7.5 - very good

 

Riise - 7 - I thought he coped well considering everything was coming down his side at the end. Crucial first goal. Worked hard. Didn't waste possession and supported Kewell well.

 

Gerrard - 5.5 - people will criticise me for criticising him, but he wasn't really in the game today - is he carrying an injury? Last twenty he was defending brilliantly, but he offered very little in attacking areas bar that one burst. Think he can do far better than that.

 

Alonso - 7.5 - solid performance. Edged his way into the game as it went on. If Cisse could understand the offside rule I'm sure we might have created some more opportunities with Xabi's long balls. Battled well.

 

Momo - 8 - he was clearly knackered at the end but he broke up the play continually.

 

Kewell - 8.5 - my man of the match. Ripped their full backs to shreds. Against Chelsea, that is a great performance.

 

Crouch - 6 - edges a six simply because he never let his head drop, was closing down their defence and was doing pretty well to hold up the ball.

 

Luis Garcia - 7 - poor first half but got better and didn't waste the ball that often today. Superb goal. He's such an instinctive player.

 

Traore - unrateable - needs to take his skates off though

Morientes - 6 - worked his nads off. Two great challenges.

I tend to be that way with my ratings unfortunately. I judge on a player's own ability and their influence on the match, which is why I can seem harsh on Gerrard.

Gerrard wasn't influencial enough and may have been carrying a knock. Did nothing wrong though and did enough right. Finnan was magnificent and beat Drogba in the air on a few occasions. They got nothing from our right flank.

I thought that (perhaps as a consequence of a very tired Gerrard in front of him allowing Chelsea too much space in front of him), Stevie Finnan got caught in behind a couple of times towards the end, and he didn't have anywhere near as much influence in possession as he has done. Maybe I'm a little harsh on the lad.
