Benitez Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 longest of me life. Couldn't watch much of that last 15 What a game, what a performance. Mighty Red Men
Spion kop Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 why does benitez invite pressure on us in those situations, on champ i put three up front, it works!
Benitez Posted April 22, 2006 Author Posted April 22, 2006 I cleaned the bath. I kept switching over to Midsomer Murders on ITV every time Chelsea had the ball - so that was most of the last 15 then!
Guest The Defender Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 The miss at the end.. couldn't of happened to a nicer guy.. I feel Cisse has just guarenteed his exit...
McBain Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Rafa had a go at him at the end He spoke to more than one player
Benitez Posted April 22, 2006 Author Posted April 22, 2006 aye, he was chatting with Pepe and Momo about the game as well, getting in a bit of extra coaching. Love it when he does that, so funny. He tried it at the end of the Champs League final, didn't Carra tell him to chill out?
Romario Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Totally agree. Turned the telly off and on, off and on etc. It was horrible.
realtarragona Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 When Cole had that chance it reminded me of Gudjohnsen in April last year... Time stopped and just waited for the inevitable.
Bootle Buck Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Both Rafa and Houllier did the same thing built a lead and then sit back. They are as equally dangerous to our health. I honestly wanted us to scor four past the barstewards but who cares 2-1 is good enough.
Benitez Posted April 22, 2006 Author Posted April 22, 2006 ah come on, we went for that 2nd goal and got it! Not like we sat on the half time lead. Give Chelsea's multi million pound squad a bit of credit, no way where we gonna dominate that game for 90 mins, they where always gonna have a spell of pressure, and they did. It's pretty simplisitc to say we sat back and invited it, like they had no say in it.
Cooldude Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I threw myself to the ground when Joe Cole had that chance and when I slowly got up I realised he missed Not as big a shock as the Gudjohnsen one where I swear my heart stopped for 6 seconds though This is one trophy that they ain't buying :lol"
IgPig Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 (edited) Both Rafa and Houllier did the same thing built a lead and then sit back. They are as equally dangerous to our health. I honestly wanted us to scor four past the barstewards but who cares 2-1 is good enough. Its different though. Chelsea are a good team and if you take the lead in a semi its inevitable that there is going to be a period like that against them. Doing that was basically Houlliers preferred option - i am sure its not rafa's. Its just that chelsea are a good team. on the original subject. I sky+ it. Went to get some beer at half time so was fifteen minutes behind. watched the last 15 minutes at +30 times normal speed. Much less anxious. Edited April 22, 2006 by hamstrung
Romario Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I don't think we sat back at all.I think the players were in two minds. Defend the lead or go for another. Rafa called Gerrard over to sort that out. After the Sissoko and Gerrard injury we had clear heads and started to play again.Great result.
Guest Aussie_Red Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 (edited) I think we should've kept dictating the play until the 80th minute mark and instead of holding back and giving them the chance to come back. As soon as we decided to hold back we started looking vunerable and confused and relied on a fair bit of luck. The defence and defensive midfield did not look at all organised when we held back. Thankfully the lads pulled through, but I think I lost a few years off of my life after that Cole miss. I can't freaking wait for the final! Edited April 22, 2006 by Aussie_Red

Like they switch on and off a 'dictating' switch? Up until Riise sent that header up for Drogba, we where in good control of that game. But momentum swings, thats how it is! And a team with the strength of Chelsea where always gonna have a spell. It's to our teams credit that they only had that spell last 20 of the game!
Guz Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I don't think we sat back at all Ha. We sat back, as we did last year in the semi, as we did in Cardiff last year too. It's not a bad thing [when we win !] and we'll be doing less of it next year when we're even better. Dont give a s*** anyway, we're through, we played well, all that matters
Rimbeux Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 its not a choice!!!! Chelsea are not league champions because they are crap absolutely, they put on all their ball carriers, and threw the kitchen sink at us. Unlike the previous encounters, this was not just Huth up front and long balls. What we didn't do was hold on to it when we had the chance
