Sevilla didn't play they way they have been playing over the last two months - lots of wing play, nice triangles in the middle of the pitch and wasting hundreds of opportunities to score as well as missing more penalties than you can imagine - instead it was hit and hope until the second half.

 

Schalke were as bad as I thought they would be - how they got this far beats me - very limited squad - Poulsen was good as was their keeper but the rest were normal to bad journeymen and this is a team that is fourth? in the Bundersliga

 

Alves had probably what was his worst game for Sevilla in a long time, but Navas ran their defence ragged and eventually forced one of their players to use the elbow - and get sent off.

 

Sevilla played 4-4-2 with Saviola and Kanoute upfront. Saviola is still in his trying-to-dribble-past-everyone stage and Kanoute was carrying a thigh strain, coming off quite early.

 

Schalke had three decent chances and a good call for a penalty but the ref was not to be swayed.

 

I think the result is good but it'll depend on how much partying the Sevilla players will do next week in the Feria.
