CarraLegend Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 not really going overboard I dont think! He's taken a shambles of a club, and got immediate results - from when he took over - if you draw up the league table from then - Newcastle would be fourth only to ManU, us and the Rent Boys. And he had the same injury problems that Souness made so many excuses about. He's shown before tho, that he can equally c**k things up, as he did at West Ham. So I aint saying he's a great coach. But he has done an excellent job there in the short term. Doesn't mean he'd do a great job long term. He's had a decent run of results and that but they've had Dyer back for a bit, Carr has come back aswell as Moore and Bramble and Boumsong both got injured for a bit so he was laughing. Depends what you define as a great job I suppose, i'd say Rafa here has done a great job, Roeder has just done a decent/good job to me so far.
Cobs Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 thought Roeder lacked the necessary coaching badges to do the job full time
Ostrich Man Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 i said the same to my wife.... can't believe the jump they have made...did she feign interest too?
Elisha_Scott Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Where do the UEFA Cup places end? Going from that, I would say - Finland - Iceland - Portugal/Spain - Russia, Turkey - Italy
stressederic Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Going from that, I would say - Finland - Iceland - Portugal/Spain - Russia, Turkey - Italy At least until the next Eurovision Song Contest is expanded to include all nations up to Australia.
_00_deathscar Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Actually you're wrong - Israelian teams participate in the UEFA too...
stressederic Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Israelian? I said so, Eurovision Song Contest contenders!
fyds Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Israelian? Yeah - you know, the ones always having problems with those Panathanaikostinians...
Maldini Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Actually you're wrong - Israelian teams participate in the UEFA too...They'll get done for cloning though
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 6th! Tottenham 36 15 62 5 Arsenal 35 30 58 6 Newcastle 37 4 55 7 Blackburn 35 4 54 8 Bolton 35 8 52 Probably won't hold onto it, but 5th & 6th get UEFA footy

stressederic Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Unless Boro win the UEFA, in which case only 5th get in. Doesn't the League Cup UEFA place go into the league this season as well, as United won it?
redjersey Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 6th! Tottenham 36 15 62 5 Arsenal 35 30 58 6 Newcastle 37 4 55 7 Blackburn 35 4 54 8 Bolton 35 8 52 Probably won't hold onto it, but 5th & 6th get UEFA footy If Boro win the UEFA Cup, they'll get one of the 3 UEFA places for next season. West Ham are already guaranteed one, which would leave a place for the 5th placed team only.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 yeah - there's 3 spots - 5th; LC (defaults to the League as the Glams won it) & FAC winners (or RU)
WelshSpikeMikey Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 (edited) Blackburn have just beaten Charlton, anyway, so they're back into 6th and have a game in hand, albeit Chelsea. Edited April 29, 2006 by WelshSpikeMikey
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 they DID finish 7th! Blackburn 6th...Just shows what sacking Souness can do for you
Behind Enemy Lines Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Had an argument with a Toon fan in the pub on Friday night - I was saying that in fact it had ended up been a reasonable season for them - ie there are where they ought 'expect' to be - battling for EUFA places. His view was that they ought be in the Champions League - when prompted as to why he claimed that they are are 'massive' club and very successful. My Wolves supporting mate at that point felt duty bound to inform him that Wolves are a more successful club. To wind him up further my Charlton supporting mate told him that on the whole Charlton where in better shape than Toon. He then had the nerve to turn to me & say that we where similar really in so much as we both had a disappointing couple of years LOL! As you would expect - he didn't believe may claim that we have won more than anyone else in the last 5 years

Cos he should have. How on earth are Charlton in better shape! They are piss poor in every way. For all our laughing at toon, and they have been funny at times the last 2 seasons, they do actually have a decent squad (they paid enough for it after all), and have shown that with a manager who can coach, they are gonna be a good team.
