Stevie H Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 agger + paletta + aurelio + warnock = please get rid of traore. Possibly, but sometimes there is no substitute for experience. there is. ability.
McBain Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Isn't it better to sell Traore so we have more chances to bed Agger? I'm desperate to sell Traore. But i'm not desperate to bed Agger
RedLars Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I was thinking about Djimi last night and it occurred to me that he's our only centre half (outside of the big 2) with a lot of experience at this level. Agger needs to bed in over next season. Djimi, while not everyone's idea of a star player, will have to be backup for the centre halfs, not to mention a useful backup left back. I'd be amazed if Djimi went in the summer, not because of his talent, but because he's experienced. I see your point but with hyypia, Carr, Agger and that Argentinian fella here next season I really dont think we need Traore. How many games has he played this season ? 10 ?
RP Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I can only see us in the market for a right wingers (or two ?) , a striker or 2 and a backup goalkeeper to replace Jerzy. We've got more goalies than young centre halfs.
Wiseman Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 BUT...it rarely pans out as we imagine so maybe your right, there'd be no shortage of takers for Traore, despite what some on here would have you believe. He'd improve most Premier league squads and play regularly as their centre half.Possibly, but sometimes there is no substitute for experience. A bad injury to Carra or Hyppia in close season, god forbid, would leave us totally dependant on Agger proving his worth. At least with Djimi around, we have someone who can step in and we'd know we wouldn't go too far wrong. Although i've just read AdamS comment and all this is rendered meaningless. I've spent so long considering how useful he is to the club but I never considered that he might not be happy with his bit part role. Quite true. The great thing about Traore is that he never complains. And most take it that he is satisfied to be a bit part player. For my part, I felt that based on what we have seen of Agger so far, seems like he can do a job. Also, Paletta doesn't sound like a player that was bought to sit on the bench for the whole season. I hope Moro, Cisse leaves..... Fowler stays and we bring in 2 more strikers. Get SWP and we are in great shape to challenge on all fronts next season.

How many games has he played this season ? 10 ? 21. The great thing about Traore is that he never complains. How do you know? He might be crying down the phone to Rafa every evening for all we know.
Stevie H Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 Quite true. The great thing about Traore is that he never complains. And most take it that he is satisfied to be a bit part player. neither of which cancel out the fact that he is sh*te.
Wiseman Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 How do you know? He might be crying down the phone to Rafa every evening for all we know. I was trying to be positive Maybe I should say, he does not complain to the press and so us fans don't know that he is unhappy about his lack of 1st team appearances.
cymrococh Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I would never complain and I would also be satisified to be a bit-part player. I should never be allowed anywhere near the Liverpool first team squad though. As well as Agger and Paletta we've got the 15 17 year old centre halves who'll need to play at some point in case they 'go pongolle'.
surf Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 (edited) Just looking at the squad and there's likely to be quite a few departures in the summer Jerzy Dudek - we've got Pepe ReinaChris Kirkland - we've got Scott CarsonCarl Medjani - is he likely to be brought back from loan? He's been gone for two yearsDjimi Traore - not likely to get a place in the team unless there is a serious injury crisisZak Whitbread - he's at the age where he needs first team football in order to progressBruno Cheyrou - thanks for that goal against ChelseaSalif Diao - Are you still here? Robbie Foy - he's nowhere near the first team squadDarren Potter - first team football requiredLuis Garcia? - just a rumourFernando Morientes? - it hasn't worked outDjibril Cisse - dittoNeil Mellor - not good enoughFlorent Sinama Pongolle - needs to start games regularlyAnthony Le Tallec - whinge bag That's 15 players and to be honest the only one we might miss is Luis Garcia if he goes. I can't see us selling Garcia, but the rest quite possibly. We'd get about 20 million? Edited April 19, 2006 by surf
McBain Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 2 things are certain in a summer of transfers You never buy all the players you want. And you definitely dont sell all the players you want
The Hitman Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 2 things are certain in a summer of transfers You never buy all the players you want. And you definitely dont sell all the players you wantYeah,we'll struggle to get rid of all that lot to be honest. I can see a lot of free transfers.
Falconhoof Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 We've got more goalies than young centre halfs. Do you think Dudek or Kirkland will stay next season ?
Knox_Harrington Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Didi's played his required # of games, I suspect we're obligated to him, should he want an extension - which he'd be mad not to want.We are obligated but he may decide to go elsewhere for nothing and more games and we may decide to let him. Don't think Garcia or Hamann are cut and dried to be here next term. Hope both are though.
RP Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Do you think Dudek or Kirkland will stay next season ? Maybe not. That leaves Pepe Reina and Scott Carson.
John Barnes Testicles Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 If we successfully bed Agger, will we have to start calling him ShAgger?
Nebraska Red Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Cisse might be staying, just like Gerrard might be signing for Chelsea. Anything might happen in the summer but I really can't imagine another season of Cisse. Gerrard is off to Madrid this year along with Asley Cole, according to the ESPN guys on today's game.
cochyn Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Don't understand the reservations about Agger - the lad's a natural. I'm convinced a decent pre-season will see him settle right in to the CB berth. I can see Paletta being blooded in cup games and coming into contention for the first team in a year's time (or even less) if reports are accurate. Is he a non-EU player or has he got he got an Italian passport on the sly? Also, could Hamman do a crazy-horse and fill-in at centre-back in the twilight of his career? I think he could, therefore we're well covered at CB and indeed LB, so Traore's superfluous - surely?

I've not been as disappointed by a signing since Diouf.

tag Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 FWIW, i think we'll sell traore, warnock & kirkland. For strikers, Moro & Cisse will be sold if we could find a buyer. I'd rather we sell kewell than garcia, if need to be, in which i hope we won't have too. dudek will be given another season as reserve goalie. as for players coming in, other than gonzalez, paletta and hopefully aurellio, one RW & one Striker and we're all set!!! I love CM-style transfer threads!
R A Softlad Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 If we successfully bed Agger, will we have to start calling him ShAgger? No cos that's Carra's nickname...

Assuming Aurelio does come in, we will have strength on the left: Riise, Aurelio, Kewell, Speedy, Zenden, all of whom Warnock will struggle to replace. Think Dudek would want to go himself.
chiliking Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I like Traore. He's a Champion of Europe. He gets way too much flak in here. Yes, he's done some mistakes, but damn !!! those last ditch takles of his. I swear he'd make it big time in 75% of the premiership teams.Don't know what you've got till it's gone, or something.
