The fact it took the judges the full 30 days might be a sign that they were in some doubt over his guilt.

It was scheduled to take a month anyway, I think

Anyone know what sort of pressure they have been under to overturn the verdict ? From last nights ITV documentary it looked like the attitude in Bulgaria was 'oh well this sort of thing happens all the time'

It was scary how bad their police processes were.

Well the government certainly haven't said anything, no one in Bulgaria has seemed to say anything, and as far as I have seen no pressure apart from Michael's supporters has been shown.

We Must Wait and Hope.

In The name Of Justice, surley to god he must at leats get a re-trial.

would have thought any Government pressure would be carried out through diplomatic channels rather than publicly through the press.

Fingers crossed the appeal is successful.

Just going from this quote:

"Tomorrow is the final day of the 30 days Supreme Court judges were given to reach a decision."

Suggests they did not have to take the whole 30 days.

Besides that let's hope justice is served for once and he gets on the plane with a one way ticket and a big cheesy grin.

Edit: Just on the whole diplomatic pressure issue, some of you may have noticed that Bulgaria is on the next round of nations to be considered to join the EU, and a lot of anti-expansionary noises have been coming from the likes of France and Germany. I am sure the Bulgarian government will be keen to at least appear as though it is being seen to be reforming it's institutions, and maybe, just maybe this whole sad and sorry saga may have been given the kind of scrutiny that would be more befitting a European judicial sytem. But I could be clutching at straws here.

Is tomorrow's decision whether to release him, or whether to have a re-trial?

One or the other, or his appeal thrown out of court...

let's hope he's home for the semi

I believe that if Michael is granted a re-trial he cannot leave the country but he wont be locked up. So at least he'll a free man in Bulgaria which is a lot better than being an innocent man locked up for 15 years in Bulgaria.

Good luck with the appeal

I was shocked by what I saw on the tonight program. It seemed that all they were interested in was getting any one for this and did not care if he was the right man.

Interesting judicial system where you can get 15 years for being in the room next door to the suspect!

Don't think I will be booking any holidays in Bulgaria any time soon.

I know it did frighten me I?ve been to quite a few places but that seems out of the bad old days where the police gat away with what they like as long as someone goes down for the crime.

2nd world country, 3rd world legal system.

One of our group wanted to go Skiing there next year. Have told them no way. How can anyone even thing about visiting that country when you can get jailed for basically being the same colour + nationality as someone who committed a crime?

The majority of people on here live in such a country.

Anyone have the ITV documentary handy on DVD? Will cover postage and throw a few quid to the appeal? Thanks

Fingers crossed that justice will be served and Michael will be freed; my thoughts and prayers go out to the lad and his family and friends. YNWA
