anyway, back to the original post :D

Pepe makes a habit of this clean sheet lark doesn't he - he had a daft amount at Villarreal as well.

On a more serious note, he is a simply brilliant link in the defensive chain. The back line have ultimate confidence in him so aren't pissing around being concious of him dropping clangers. He marshals the defence close in very well and his communication is obviously superb.

Those things have had an enormous effect on, for example, Sami's return to god like defending status this season.

Reina is massively important in the defensive unit, can't be over estimated.

Andy Gray made me howl with laughter at the wekend

Gray- 'i'm not so sure about this keeper'

Tyler- 'he has kept an astonishing number of clean sheets though Andy'

Gray 'i'm sure I could behind this defence'

Who is the best? Pepe, Clem or Grobs?

Pepe is better than Grobelaar. I was a big fan of Brucie, he made astonishing saves at times and was never given the credit he deserved due to the received wisdom that he made a lot of howlers. His mistakes were rare, you can't be anything but a top class goalkeeper in a side that won as much as he did.

Dunno about Clemence, too early to say yet ? how old is Pepe anyway ?

Pepe is 23.

I'm all for giving credit where it's due, and Pepe has had an excellent debut season, and is worthy of praise. He's obviously a very good goalie.

But, to even be wondering if he's better than 2 goalies that won so much and played consistently over a number of years, right now, is what I consider going overboard!

Time only will tell.

As for Andy Grey's comments about him - :bryanrobson:

In a magazine (think it was 442) a couple of years ago, they had a poll amongst world Goalkeepers of their best, and Clem came in at No.1. Says it all recognition from your peers, rather than from Curry, Harris and Samuel. etc

but thats immaterial, as the one and only super duper all knowing football pundit that is Andy Grey still, "is nay sure aboot Reina" and thats all that matters :P

One of our fans in some broadsheet match preview the other day called him a 'dodgy keeper' and called for Jerzy's reinstatement.
