Falconhoof Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 How the hell does he pick up so many bookings for minor challenges. Do the referees see him as an easy target ? Do they not like the look of him or something ? he makes a lot of tackles yeah but he's not a dirty player by any means. Look at the fouls Rooney makes and gets away with, or Shearer or Lampard. I'm well pissed off about that booking Momo has had. Rafa was wise enough to leave him out against Bolton but it seems he can't set foot on the pitch without referees giving him a card. Add that to they way he was overlooked for the players awards and we're on dodgy ground.

Cooldude Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 The refs seem to think he has a reputation of being a bit rash with his challenges and they're probably unfairly blacklisting him It happens
Guest snez1 Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Todays booking was a joke. He's still okay for the semi though right? He's a f***in monster, immense today again.
Guest keygone Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 He was absolutely superb today. Overshadowed Xabi (which is almost impossible) and controlled the midfield. His distribution and ball-retention were excellent & far better than his earlier performances. The biggest compliment I can pay is that we don't miss Hamann when Momo plays.
Benitez Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Todays booking was a joke. He's still okay for the semi though right? He's a f***in monster, immense today again. yeah, he's ok for the semi final He really is some player is Momo. Amazing really, a player I thought was a luxury signing in the summer, cos we where pretty well set in central midfield as it was - is now for me, one of our key players. I really think we are a different team with him these days, we missed him when he was injured. And its also allowed SteG to play on the right, meaning we haven't been as stretched in that position as we could have been. He's just been a great signing for us. And I'll say it again - he's only 21, and he's this good! And thank fec that eye injury wasn't as bad as we first feared. When that happened, I was worried that was it for him, yet here he is - like he's never been away!
Earl Hafler Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Benitez, you make him sound like the best player in the world. He's good but i think some people are going overboard, just like they did with Xabi last season. Momo picks up bookings because he looks clumsy. Someone like Makelele - or even Xabi today - makes less obvious but cynical fouls. The way Sissoko plays, there's no half measures.

Ane he's become an important player for us this season, I think that much is clear, but debate that fact all you wish! Thats my main point with him, he's become far more a key player this season than I ever thought he would be. Does that mean he's the best in the world? Course not. Daft to even think it. Dafter to believe anyone thinks it. And I'd never suggest it.

Benitez Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 You flipped the last time i put the word ' daft 'in a post pay back time innit? Mind you, I don't make a point of remembering every past posts to make comebacks tho, i'm not that obsessed I only remember some of them, hehe.
Clay Davis Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 his ball retention has certainly improved. he's going to be an integral part of our title winning season whether it be next season or the season after. (Neck is so far stuck out)

I think thats harsh, and actually, I haven't seen many better 21 year old centre midfielders in my 32 years. Momo is a great player with a great attitude, although slightly rough around the edges. But, lets just enjoy having the best midfield selection in Europe.
KD07 Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Much better ball retention and his passing's much improved deffo, and the lad showed no small amount of skill either today getting out of many a tight spot with some deft footwork at great pace. He makes winning the 10/90's look like a stroll in the park.

D.Boon Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 He gets booked a lot because he makes some very clumsy tackles. To suggest he is victimised is as ridiculous as comparing him to Keane and Viera.
George Costanza Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 He gets booked a lot because he makes some very clumsy tackles. Agree. Don't like the comparison thing but in this sense he does remind me of Vieira when he first came to the Premiership. Obviously there are aspects of his game he can significantly improve on but what a prospect. Makes for a cracking selction headache next season for Rafa.
Falconhoof Posted April 17, 2006 Author Posted April 17, 2006 He gets booked a lot because he makes some very clumsy tackles. Lots of players do, they don't get a routine booking every game. Watch the tackles Rooney puts in, or Lampard for example. Are they on 10 cards ? Momo has probably deserved half that number.
hideNseek Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 " He's a great player "" He covers more ground than any other player i've ever seen " To me, that's overboard. And he picks up some of his bookings because he is rash and can look ' awkward '. We've all seen Makelele's nudges, barges, clipping people by the ankle. Xabi did it yesterday and was fortunate to to be cautioned but Sissoko can go in full steam ahead and look clumsy. His passing is erratic and his shooting is almost nonexistent but there's no doubting his commitment and will to win. In my opinion, he's a good player who should go on to be an excellent one as he is still very raw. Think you'll strugle to name many players that do cover more ground though.
shaq Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 He seems to be getting better on the booking front... The one against Bolton was his first in nine games. However, the last time he had a decent booking free spell (eight games from sep-oct), he followed up with eight yellows and a red in 16 games....
D.Boon Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 And he deserves the young player of the year award ahead of Fabregas Sorry, disagree with that. Whilst i think the Fabregas praise is a at times a bit over the top. I think he has had a more impressive season that Sissoko
