magneto Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 With the proper future backing by the Liverpool board, coupled with the fantastic support we give the lads week in week out, he has the potential to be as great a manager as Paisley.

floyd Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 THE QUALITY OF MERSEYBLACKBURN v LIVERPOOL, TODAY 2.30PM WE'RE AFTER CHELSEA.. THEY NO LONGER HAVE AIR OF INVINCIBILITY' Says RAFAEL BENITEZSimon MullockRAFA BENITEZ believes Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal will gang up next season to ensure that Chelsea do not become the bullies of the Premiership. The Anfield boss insists that Jose Mourinho's champions-elect no longer carry the air of invincibility they once had and that the chasing pack will be able to exploit the cracks that have started to open up within the London club. Benitez, whose team face resurgent Blackburn at Ewood Park today, can further undermine Chelsea next week when Liverpool meet the Blues in the FA Cup semi-finals at Old Trafford. But it is the big Premiership prize that the Spaniard has really got his eye on - and his message to Mourinho is clear. Benitez said: "Manchester. United have proved this season that if you are very positive in the way you play then you can get very close to Chelsea. "Chelsea and United are much closer than they were last year and, next season, I think that Liverpool and Arsenal will also make it much more interesting. "Then there are other teams like Tottenham and Blackburn who are developing. "It is good to see that no one is scared of Chelsea now. Teams have learned to play against them and we are all working on ways to beat them. "United are closest at the moment. The difference is now down to the results of one or two matches. "It is good enough for Chelsea now, but it is not a gap that cannot be closed. "Clubs and players no longer fear Chelsea. They know that they can be beaten now. We are seeing that - and it is only the start. Every year it will become more and more difficult for them." It amuses Benitez that Mourinho is still smarting from last season's Champions League exit at the hands of the Merseysiders, when a controversial goal by Luis Garcia at Anfield sent Liverpool to Istanbul and a place in footballing legend. Mourinho has developed a real complex about the Reds since then and his mood will not have been helped by the fact that Benitez has beaten him to the signature of highly-rated Chile winger Mark Gonzalez. Gonzalez, who hopes to secure a work permit by virtue of having Spanish and German grandparents, agreed to join Liverpool from Albacete despite Mourinho's personal intervention. And Benitez believes there are things that even the wealth of Chelsea benefactor Roman Abramovich can't buy. He added: "Yes, Abramovich has money. And we know that there will be more and more money. "But Chelsea can only buy so many players and even though they spent more than anyone else last summer, other teams are now getting closer to them. "Here at Liverpool we need more money to be contenders. We want the freedom to do the job better and so we'd like more money. "But it is not just about spending. Players coming to this club know that they have other advantages that Chelsea do not give. "We have a fantastic atmosphere, not just inside our stadium, but around the club itself. "They also find that the club treats them well, from the board and the directors to the other players. "When they come they realise that there is something very special here that they can't find anywhere else. "So I don't envy Mourinho's wealth. I am really satisfied here and happy that last season we won the Champions League. "I believe that game against AC Milan is going to be | remembered as the best European Cup Final ever. "That is something we 1 have, that is progress." mirror link
