Rafa: No longer wants furniture it's now a bigger

Rafa Benitez hopes to fine tune his side in the summer in order to put in a concerted title bid next season.

The popular Spanish tactician has seen his side fall short this season as they currently trail Chelsea and Manchester United in third place.

A heavy close-season of spending is predicted at Anfield and Benitez admits he needs to make changes if they are to compete at the top of the table.

It is widely believed that a striker and a central defender top Benitez's wish list but it remains to be seen which new faces will arrive on Merseyside for next term.

''If you have a car and win a race, you cannot just settle for that,'' said Benitez.

''You must try and make the car better. We're a good car but you always want a bigger engine.

''You do that by signing the players we need and improving the players we have. The spirit is good but always you can improve the physical condition and work on tactics.

''I'd like to see the team progressing next year. Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United will improve - so we've got to as well.''

During his last season at Valencia, when Valencia were breathing down Madrid's neck in the league...Rafa told one of the Paco's...

"they may have a bigger car, but our car has more petrol" :D

Next up: "I wanted a bigger engine and they bought me a wheel."

haha, yeah but wheels are useful, it would probably more like:

I wanted a bigger engine and they bought me a sunroof."
