Definately a big step forward. We should get about 1/3rd more points than last years. I think its interesting to look at the areas we were weakest last year and how well Rafa has addressed them.

Up front - Crouch scores as many as baros but crucially actually holds the ball up and allow the midfield and defense to push out.

Midfield - Sissoko has been a revelation chasing and tackling opponents and generally denying them the time and space they had last year.

Defense - Reina is lightneing quick and his judgement is great. Many times this year he has snuffed out danger before it got a chance to develop. I cant think of loads of great saves he has made because he has got the balance just right with the back four and hasnt been called on to make many saves.

Whats most encouraging though is that we have come such a long way, but there is still obviously huge room for further improvement. Its crystal clear we need an outside right and at least one centre forward to replace cisse and morientes. I've every confidence that Rafa will sort out these positions over the summer as effectively as he did the previous summer.

Now all needed is Bergkamp, Overmars and Wright ;)

Exactly the 3 type of players i think we need, fingers crossed!

In terms of performance this year, we all wanted CL qualification and to be closer to Chelsea, and good runs in all the cups.

In the league we've absolutely achieved that, delighted with effectively securing CL qualification with 4 games to go and a possible highest points total for over 15 years. Not only that, but the amount of shots, corners etc would seem that our only major challenge is to be more clinical in front of goal. A record number of clean sheets, and Anfield becoming a fortress again.

In the cups, we have every chance of winning the FA cup, and although in the CL we had a poor result against Benfica the next game would have been Barca. We'd have probably lost this, and if we had then it would have been no disgrace. The other opportunity missed was in the League Cup, but hey, it's only 'micky mouse' ;)

I'm happy with our overall progress this year, and now we have a squad almost entirely under 30 that will be together for some time, plus the return of God. It's gotta be a hit.

Definately made a lot of progress so it's a hit in that regard. Gotta win trophies. If we win the F.A Cup and get 76points then it would have been a very good season

An Accetpable Inprovement Is what I would call it

IUD, long time no see!

I think that we're being set up a little similar to Wengers 1st Double team, just a bit more dynamic.

The back 5 have at least 4 years to go as a unit (allowing for the phaseing out of Sami with Agger/Paletta and hoping Carra stays as the senior influence) A dynamic midfield that is solid as well. Now all needed is Bergkamp, Overmars and Wright ;)

Hi Snoeker mate

Yup I keep logging on and tryin to catch news here and there but busy elsewhere Im afraid. Not had the chance to visit the ground this season as I run an U12 football team now and they play on Saturdays. We are doing ok though. When I get the chance I will try to get a ticket and catch up with you guys.

FYDS - Long time mate ;)

Big G - Old joke ;)

Benitez - Will try to get up there and share a shandy kiddo

As for the team - Rafa is doing a great job. I am confused about the slow play with the stadium and the financial side of things. Its beginning to wear rather thin

Good season. A left back, centre back and left winger are all comin gin and with the addition of a striker or two and a top class wide man we will have a pretty complete squad.

Put an Owen in our side this season instead of Morientes and tell me we wouldn't be 2nd pushing Chavski now....

According to PT's latest writeup, we have had a better win ratio than 16 of the 18 seasons we won the bleeding title.

For me that's a hit.

Is that the same M. Owen who has been out most season injured? :hmm:

It is a good indicator of our performance relative to our records, however statistics will not win you a title. It's all relative to a season, and relative to Chelski and Manure we are still 3rd. Which will make the next championship title that much sweeter.

Hit.

Improvement in the squad during the summer, improvement during the transfer window. Improvement in the league and at least a cup semi.

The post CL madness has thankfully subsided and maybe now a more realistic tilt at the title next season.

Performances against Chelsea and the Mancs were bitterly disappointing, as have been our trips to London.
