Loved the blurb on the main page: "Two of Anfield's greats competed to see who could use the most hackneyed phrases to praise Pepe Reina. Kenny Dalglish won. "

As long as Jockey keeps winning at Golf, can't see him bothering about that one. ;)

He's worked out when to come for crosses and when to stay on his line. Basically, he's worked out what the right thing to do is

 Aye, because he was completely useless at it in Spain.

i think he just meant that there are alot more crosses in England than Spain and keepers get away with a bit more. Pepe has said both himself

Commentators still go on about how Pepe 'made the wrong decision' to punch the ball.

What they've failed to realise is that he's been coached to do so, and it's been extremely effective..

Just as bad as the Zonal marking bulls***..

to be fair they aren't saying that purely in terms of him learning when and when not to come for the ball - I read it as more in the context of getting used to the specific ways of playing with the central defender partnerships, I read it earlier in the paper and there were some line about Sami and Carra and how he has worked it out with them.

Great read until this part:

"Everton are monitoring Paul Dickov's contract negotiations at Blackburn Rovers an may revive a long-standing interest in the Scotland striker should he fail to agree terms for next season."

:D Looks like they're going all out to win the CL soon

Did anyone see Goals on Sunday last week?

Alan Stubbs and Dean Windass were on. The two presenters were showing clips of Stubbs, talking about him like he was Paolo Maldini.

The topic turned, for some reason, to zonal marking, and the fact we use it.

Windass pops up with "As a striker, if you are playing against a team using zonal marking, you are loving it. WHen you get corners and free kicks you are loving it, as you know you've got a better chance to score".

He could play against our defence evey week and not get a sniff.

Leo will be along in a minute to describe his experiences of zonal marking ;)

What I was going to say (before accidentally powering my work PC off by pulling the cable with my foot lol), was the point he's trying to make is actually a good one.

He shouldn't have said 'Reina has worked out when to come for crosses', but rather 'he's worked out how to play in England'.

The game over here is so different, and Pepe has adapted, with the help of Rafa's advice by all accounts.

He's worked out (most of the time) when to punch, which is when he's under pressure, and when to catch the ball. He's just got better and better, and I'd say that is down to him tweaking his game slightly to suit English football.

Leo, i loved it when we signed him because i thought he was suited to our game. His speed - on the ground, decision making, reactions etc is ideal for the Premiership and he's more commanding than Dudek, more confident in his decision making. Dudek is a very good keeper but Reina is better.

There were a couple of hiccups at the start of the seaon but, as you say, that was down to being unfamiliar with our defence. I'm sure you'll agree - you can practice the offside trap, corners and freekicks all you like but it's competitive games that you need to gel the whole thing together.

Will had a go at me for saying this but i'm sticking by it - he is the best keeper we've had in 20 years and i think will go on to become one of the greats.

Will has got me to contend with as well then, because I agree with you...

His confidence and decision-making remind me of the best goalkeeper of the generation I grew up with - Peter Schmeichel...

Except he didn't break any clean sheet records.

But everyone was bleating on about how he was World Class and how great he was going to be in the world Cup
