Replace Crouch with a stronger quicker goal machine - and that's pretty tasty looking

your wish is my command -- < folds arms across chest then; Jeannie like nob of the head >

yeah if we upgrade crouch thats an attacking team --- by buying pennant we are saving money

to spend on a crouch upgrade

At £4m, the price that has been quoted, he'd be exceptionally good value.

With the quality of Sissoko and Alonso in the middle, and hopefully a couple of quality forwards to arrive, I'd expect Gerrard to spend a fair bit of time on the right.

Because of that we don't need to spend a huge amount of money on a right sider, but Pennant represents loads of potential for a smallish outlay, and his delivery is exceptional.

He'd be an excellent option.

Why were people so against signing Lee Bowyer and or Bellamy but loads pro Pennant, I just don't get it? Not defending Lee Bowyer or Bellamy but neither of them have been convicted in a court of law and forced to do time in jail. Would we be keen to sign Lee Hughes if he was a good player?

He is a good player there is no escaping that but he is trouble - convicted drink driver, he drove down a road dragging a signpost behind the car he was that pissed. Since then he has got in further trouble

I agree Leo, his quality for that price is a steal compared to other options

Bowyer is in an entirely different planet in terms of hatefulness. He's a genuine nasty bit of business. I don't think there is evidence that Pennant is anything other than someone who's been a bit of a t** in the past.

Pennant has been guilty of being a bit thick, and in need of a guiding hand, the other two have been known to fall out with their shadow over the time of day.

What position does this kid play?

If we get a RW winger, that means stevie will play behind the striker, and i doubt rafa will buy Aguero to play upfront by himself.

So if we dont buy a RW - stevie stays out there and in come Aguero to play behind the striker who hopefully will be Kuyt.

And the rest is history as we go on to dominate Yerp & Prem!

That's one helluva a team. And I've never seen a third of the team play

Is he nice enough though ?

Not arsed either way my confusion is why certain people are considered ok to sign but others are not. Is there a internet sliding scale were by certain individuals should not be signed based on previous indescretions? If Rafa wants to sign Pennant then go for it, I might not agree with the decision but it's not up to me.

I've seen people's lives ruined because a member of their family was murdered by a drunk driver, he is more than just a t** he is one of the lowest of the low if you ask me but football is all about winnign matches not signing the likes of Bob Geldoff ;)

Middlesbrough centre-back Chris Riggott is preparing to commit his future to the club, despite interest from Liverpool. (Daily Mirror)

I don't know about him commiting his future to Boro, but as of yesterday he wasn't aware of any interest from Liverpool!!

That one is deffo paper talk.

Our interest in him ended in 2002!

:o:o No Aguero??

In other news;

Don't believe we're after Riggott. For a start he's definitely not as good as Carra or Hyypia, We've just spent £5m on Agger and we are signing Palletta (whom I have no idea if he's any good or not, but presumably Rafa thinks he is) so why would we spend anything on Riggott. Is he on a free or something? Even then, I can't see when he'd play?

So if we dont buy a RW - stevie stays out there and in come Aguero to play behind the striker who hopefully will be Kuyt.

Is there any evidence we are actually interested in Aguero other than the man tarting himself to us? Is Rafa likely to actually spend the reported ~£10m when he needs the money for his RW and one or more strikers?

I know. Simao's in that one in Portugal.

oh my god that is hilarious.

The hacks linking us with Riggott and Mexes really are laughably bad at their job.

If you're filling column space by linking a team with a player they've been interested by in the past, do yourselves a favour and try and make sure the position hasn't already been filled, its not that hard...

Think someone on here made a good point a while back. Basically Rafa play his cards so close to his chest, it's hard for hacks to get many leads.

So they make s*** up, and recycle very old rumours!

Like the look of that team, though I'd be more than happy for us to spend te £4m on Pennant instead of getting Victor and let Garcia compete with him and Gerrard respectively for the right wing and second striker roles. We also have Anderson coming through and Kewell can play there if Gonzales makes it into the team on the left. For some reason I don't mind having depth in the CM positions, but bearing in mind that Zenden is available again next season i think too many wingers kicking their heels on the bench is a bit wasteful unless they genuinely can, and regularly might play up front as well.

I also think that Hyppia has another good season left in him, but the prospect of having a bit more pace with Agger would be good.

I wouldn't mind seeing Aguero come in but I just don't see him being the kind of striker to play off scraps from Crouch because he's a little bit more creative than that. Defoe on the other hand, can create but is also equally suited to playing off a target man. Ideally, I'd like us to replace Morientes and Cisse with Kuyt and Defoe but that could be very costly. Kuyt, Crouch and Defoe with any one of Kewell, Gerrard or Garcia sometimes playing as second striker gives us plenty of options.
