Just been reading about POW?s ? specifically the ones held by the Japanese.

However in a footnote at the end is some stats about POW death rates in WW2

(these specific stats related to Military personnel only)

40% of Germans captured by the Russians died in captivity.

60% of Russians captured by the Germans died in captivity.

4% of the Western Allies captured by the Germans died in captivity.

27% of POW captured by the Japanese died in captivity.

No figures given for Japanese, German or Italian troops captured by the Western Allies.

Japan also used a lot of local civilians as slave labour ? its estimated that 80-90% of them died.

I was always under the impression that the POW?s in Southeast asia were the worst treated ? and whilst I don?t in any way try to diminish what happened to them (especially the ones used as medical lab rats) the figures for the civilians are horrific. And even worse are the figures in Eastern Europe ? civilians aren?t even covered in those stats.

Grim f***ing stuff.
