Guest Sabre Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 My best friend, my best man, just called to tell me that he has colon cancer. I don't know a great deal about cancer, even though my dad had nasalpharangeal cancer when I was young and survived, so I'm not sure I fully understand what chances he has, but he's about to be admitted into hospital to have a bag fitted in his a*** before they start the chemotherapy which will last 6 weeks in an attempt to reduce the size of the lump. The specialist says that the lump is the size of a large orange. My mate saw the scans for himself today - he is taking it quite well from how he sounded and he was being especially brave. He said he noticed a lot of pain of the past couple of weeks in his lower back and he had a bad bout of diarrhoea as well as weight loss. He was talking to me about lymphoids and stuff like that but I sort of zoned out as I really couldn't believe it. At this moment, I'm just sitting here wondering how the hell this could affect someone so close to me, someone so young and full of energy. His sister is getting married in a couple of months too and he was due to graduate from university in May. He was best man at my wedding 3 months ago. He's 23 years old. You'll Never Walk Alone, Richard.
