David Moyes has urged Sven-Goran Eriksson to consider recalling Phil Neville as doubts were raised over whether Luke Young will be fit in time for the World Cup finals. Young's manager Alan Curbishley suggested yesterday that his right-back should return from an ankle injury in about a fortnight, but Eriksson would have to reconsider his options if the Charlton captain suffers a set-back

I don't get it?

Reliable, can play a number of positions and is experienced.

Yeah, it's hilarious.

I can play in a number of positions too. Unfortunately, like Phil, I'm crap in all of them.

Fair play to Moyes he has to support his lads but the idea of Neville and Beattie in the World Cup boggles the mind.

You forgot one important detail - he's s***.

Neither is Neville you whoppers.

he's hopeless. the fact he looks good in your side doesnt say much. although i was disappointed that his Derby goal didnt make it to the shortlist on MOTD's goal of the month

Don't think Beattie is the worst shout in the world.

He's a journeyman bustler. If he really is World Cup material, you need to wonder:

a) why he's not been before

b) what kind of sh*te England must be

Have to agree. Beattie is nothing much of anything.

Yeah, as Alan Parry shouted

"Oooooooooooooooh what a brilliant goal!"

the thing is once you get past Owen and Rooney, there is not a lot of decent English strikers around - so a journeyman bustler is squad material

for the world cup? he's probably the sixth choice at the moment, realistically. and eriksson will take five at most.

Beattie has a better touch than people are giving credit for. But Neville, christ that really would be scraping the barrel.

I can see him going though, he's always been in Sven's squads and he has his favourites.

Neville is one of the worst players I've ever seen. Failed full back, failed midfield 'enforcer', famous for having a brother in the union, occasionally throws the ball a long way and passes like a rugby union fly half - straight into touch. He wouldn't get into Everton's team if they were all fit - so why the England squad?

question is who is sven's cover right-back with luke young being out of the equation? carra can do a job there but is a better centre-half. glen johnson is a mug.

I'd take Owen, Rooney, Crouchy, Defoe OR Bent and Beattie OR Ashton.

Crouch is his plan B so he needs to cover him in the event of injury. Beattie has a good touch, wins his battles and knows where the goal is. He isn't a world beater but he would offer a certain amount and does hold the ball up well.

Neville is schite - but just to show that view isn't purely down to his club, I actually think another Everton player would be a far better option to cover the right-back slot.

Hibbert has been a very reliable performer at right-back for a couple of seasons now.

No he's no Cafu, but he's steady and I'd rather him there than Neville, who has already succeeded in knocking England out of one major tournament...

In fact - seeing as how he won't get into the midfield, I'd try playing Scott Parker at right-back in the friendies leading up to the World Cup.

I think he could be superb in that position, much the same way Gerrard was when he first came through for us.

He has the tacking ability, engine and quality to make it work.

I thought Neville had been left out of the Euro 2004 and World Cup 2002 squad.

Scott Paker has glandular fever though and probably won't play again this season.

Hibbert is absolute s****. Throws the odd crowd pleasing 'tackle' in, but is awful at most things. Danny Mills is better.
