Sissoko, Finnan, Whelan.

Henchoz is genuinely underrated. I don't think Hamann gets in to the top list as some still and always have doubted him.

Oh do f*** off. I'm not sure if you're here to genuinely wind people up or you're actually this clueless. Either way it's becoming tedious and boring.

So, if I don't agree with your football views I am clueless. I'll tell you something: I rather be clueless.

At least you admit it now.

It's nothing to do with 'ones views'.

Each and every person is entitled to their opinion - but yours is akin to that of saying Maradona and myself are about at the same level.

Are you Ronaldinho?

You are pretty good though, to be fair.

Hamman doesn't have the pace to cover all the gaps the rest leave behind. Pablo Garcia is not worse than Hamman. I think they miss Makelele but he is not the only factor. Figo is gone (and finished) and Zidane and Raul are finished as well. So they lost defensively and attacking wise.

Dear oh dear

All I can say, is you clearly haven't watched much of Dietmar Hamann and don't seem to know as much as you think you do about the game.

There are plenty of people who don't think Hamann contributes enough going forward, and I've agreed with that myself; I actually wouldn't ever have played him at home against teams which come to defend because he's practically a wasted player in that situation.

But when it comes to 'covering gaps' to use your own words he is absolutely second-to-none in the world game, truly exceptional. That is why he would have been so good in the Makelele role - he wouldn't need to get forward at Madrid just win it back and give it to a 'Galactico'.

Do you really think that kind of role requires pace? Is Makelele himself quick? Is Gattuso? Holding midfielders are rarely fast so to count him out for a lack of pace makes me think you're either on a wind-up, or just a bit ignorant...

Makelele and Gattusso are like Michael Johnson compared to Hamann though - or atleast Gattusso is.

But to say that Whatsisface is no worse than Hamann is just....laughable.

What you need for that role is anticipation and reading of the game. Close behind that are distribution and tackling.

Anything else is a bonus - but Hamann ticks all those boxes. You don't need to be quick if you're in the right place at the right time.

As a purely defensive midfielder, Hamann is as good as any and he's proved that consistently against the very best opposition at home and in Europe.

Its when he has to do something going forward he's useless.

Makelele is much faster than Hamman. I have seen Makelele holding his own against Mark Overmars. He has lost pace but still is far more mobile than Hamman. Ask Gerrard who never manages to beat him. And we all believe we know. If you don;t believe what you are saying don;t say it. In'nt?

Oh I agree we're all entitled to our own views mate - but I really think you should watch more of Hamann.

His game is a lesson in the art of defensive midfield play.

He is very good as long as he doesn't get isolated. But Pablo Garcia is also very good in the same circumstances. I have seen him play for Osasuna. Probably many of you haven't and are evaluating the player for his perfamances in a team meant to attack but a spent force. I don't think Hamman would fare much better in that set up. He didn't even do that well last year apart from a few games. Otherwise Sissoko wouldn't have taken his post.

This the same Makalele that Gerrard raped for pace in the cup final and Makalele hauled him down in the box.

You don't half spout some s****, Makalele aint quick.

They are two totally different players, time for an education - Alonso took Hammans role, Sissoko does the role Gerrard does when he plays CM against decent opposition. Sissoko's game is all about pace and closing down to win the ball which is how Gerrard wins the ball, Hamann and Alonso (although he presses more now than Didi did) is about anticipating what happens next and stopping it. That is what Makalele does.
