Martin is seriously thinking about calling elections for the end of May.

The idea is to clear the Boardroom of opposition before he starts the dressing room cull.

1st player on Martin's chopping block: Raul

Closely followed by Roberto Carlos, Gravesen, Pavon, Soldado.

Strangely enough - yes.

Since Martin took over the club have put on a charm offensive to try and keep the Brazillian from leaving come June.

Martin was regarded by many as Florentinos protege - but he has been trying, unsuccessfully, to break away from that.

Raul is not helping matters inside the dressing room.

After the 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad Martin called a meeting with the technical staff and the players.

Overruling Caro's decision to give the players a three day holiday (excluding those called up by Luis Aragones for the selection get together) Martin read the riot act at the squad and accused them of not giving a toss about the club.

"We stand to lose more than 30 million ? if we don't finish second and some of you are more bothered about what you should wear on the way home..."

Some mention was made at this point of the frequency in which certain players visit city centre nightclubs. Martin then went on to spit out:

"What kind of image does that give to our fans? I want to see the determination and performance that you showed against Deportivo..."

At this point Raul stood up and walked towards the door; "If that's the image that you want the club to project then you have absolutely no f*cking idea of what Real Madrid is..."

Martin sulked off met with Butragueño and then announced that the players could have their holidays after all.

Apparently he wants Raul's head.

That is one bold move. Would that not cause severe unrest with the fans??

Note- just read Figaro's post. He's gunning for him then

huh? Madrid is steeped in a history of 9 european cups and that 7-3 final. It's not meant to be a playground for rich players not to do anything on the pitch

how would Raul fit into Benitez's plans here?

with the above quote? Not very well, not very well at all

One of Martin's first "under the table" actions was to "leak" to Marca the possibility of Raul taking a 30% wage cut on his remaining contract.

Marca send journo to training ground to interview Raul about the rumours.

"No way. I deserve every cent of what I get!" was his answer that was then plastered all over the Madrid press.

'All not well at Madrid'...and in slightly more surprising news 'Bear goes for crap in woods' :)

Raul would be a disaster here.

The last striker on earth I'd want us to sign; I'd rather have Heskey back...:o

Beckham still trying to break America.....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beckham wants to end career in US

England captain David Beckham says he would like to end his career playing in Major League Soccer in the US.

Beckham, who still has one year to run on his contract at Real Madrid, wants to spend three more seasons in Spain and perhaps move to America in 2009.

"At some stage, playing in America is possible," said the 30-year-old, who recently opened football academies in his native London and also Los Angeles.

"For me, America's so passionate and I'd like to be a part of that."

Beckham's three-year stay at Real has yet to yield any significant silverware, but the former Manchester United star could be on the verge of signing a new deal at the Bernabeu.

"I've one year left at Real, and maybe two more after that, but things can change in football and the American league does interest me," added Beckham in an interview with ESPN.

"I want to be part of a country that is passionate about sport. I've got my academy in LA which is important to me because that is my life after the game.

"America for me is one of the most passionate places. There is an incredible feeling around the country.

"I always mention when I'm asked about America about how you can walk down the street and everyone has got the stars and stripes flying in front of their house."

The politics surrounding Spain's two biggest clubs always amazes me! This kind of stuff can only be detrimental to the team's performance.

I think all the interested parties should all just have a big fight and have done with it - in the middle of the Bernebau pitch, with a sell out crowd chanting 'fight, fight, fight'. Thats clearly the best way forward...

:)

Baptista will be the last man standing. :)

Baptista is not a patch on the player he was last season at Sevilla CF.

A case of becoming a small fish in a big pond - and having a pair of Richard Head's as trainers who haven't had the slightest idea of how to play him in his proper position.

Might be a good time for someone like us to try to pick up Baptista at a reduced price.

I still think he has fantastic qualities for the game in England...

He'd be a great shout to come here and cover Alonso.

Didn't know they were that way inclined ;) ...but the resultant offspring would have a great chance of making the grade :)

We need someone with a decent range of passing to offer cover. Only cover. He's got experience in this league.

While being aware of your 'inverse Vinny Samways' theory, I still don't think he'd be the right player for that role. I'd have thought he'd be cover for Gerrard more so.
