D.Boon Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 For me : ....................Reina Finnan.....Carragher....Hyypia......JAR ??.........Gerrard.....Alonso...........?? ...............??...............?? I think we all agree a new right midfield and striker are required, i think Riise has done enough this season to keep the left back spot. While Kewell and Crouch are great for squad rotation in terms of a first choice 11, these are both positions i think we could improve on in terms of building a consistent title challenging team. I know many will think this harsh on Kewell and Crouch but its just my opinion. Im interested to see where other people think the current team is in terms of development??
Earl Hafler Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I think we'll see Agger far more next season and Hyypia will be rotated more frequently.
Knox_Harrington Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 No first eleven per se, a twenty man outfield squad. There's a place for a cover left back, two right mids, a playmaking midfielder, an alternative to Crouch and a world beater to play off Crouch.
Guest Sabre Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Still don't think that Gerrard/Alonso as a central pairing is quite right but if we're talking about the squad, it's great having the option of playing Gerrard anywhere across the midfield or linking the forward play.
McBain Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I think we missed Sissoko alarmingly today. and i'd say that he's nailed on next season to be a regular Right mid, both strikers I agree with. Harry if he keeps his form up can keep his place I would think. Though nobody is guaranteed anything
fred milne Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Still don't think that Gerrard/Alonso as a central pairing is quite right. It only works against the weakest opposition.
Cisse Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Jeskelainen, Aurelio, Kallstrom, Pennant, Victor, Kuyt, Torres and we'll be there
Hugh Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I think we'll see Agger far more next season and Hyypia will be rotated more frequently. Yeah much like Sissoko and Hamann this season I'd say.
CaptainXabi Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Momo's guaranteed a spot IMO. He eats opposing midfielders for lunch.
Maldini Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 It only works against the weakest opposition. You say that like it's a negative. Ever since we last won the league it's been the clubs who come to defend that we've struggled against, I think with Alonso and Gerrard in there we've a bit more creativity to break down two banks of four.
Rimbeux Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Jeskelainen, Aurelio, Kallstrom, Pennant, Victor, Kuyt, Torres and we'll be there So you don't rate our keeper You say that like it's a negative. Agree. That Gerrard had a quiet game today won't end this bandwagon, but there's nothing 'theoretically' wrong with the partnership that an actual run of games wouldn't fix, it's hardly the England situation
Earl Hafler Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 What Gerrard and Alonso need ( and to take full advantage of their passing ability ) are the right players in wide areas and intelligent movement -and pace - upfront. That has been lacking in many games.
SkippyjonJones Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 morientes, Cisse and kewell out.Gonzalez, owen, bellamy and another right winger in. Morientes out to betis px for Joaquin?Kewell px to Newcastle for owen?Cisses sold / px for Bellamy (and or FSP to go?)? Gonzalez deal done. add our bit of argie bargy at the back and that would be an improvement for the team for next year

Spike Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 (edited) Kewell was boss second half today and by his own admission still isn't fit. I reckon with Gonzalez coming in we'll have enough competition to rest him and challenge him accordingly. Besides it's not like we are in 2002 when he was worth a seven figure sum. Keep him - it'd cost a lot more and besides to find another HK, and he'll prove to be a bargain to any other team. For me, Rafa wants two players vying for positions so the changes I expect are: LB: JAR and that argie fellaCB: SortedRB: SortedCM: Wouldn't be surpised to see another come in as...RM: Garcia / Gerrard who can both play as second forward /LM/RM but we need an out and out touchline huggerLM: HK and SpeedieCF: Crouch, Fowler, Nando to stay with possibly two forwards to come in - a poacher / box player type and a battering ram type.Nando loaned out in January. SkippyjonJones Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Why do you want to sell Kewell? You just don't like him very much do you. I've been sussed no I don;t - and I think Gonzalez will paly more than him next year. I just think that it could be a good time to use him in PX for someone else we want as we have a new winger arriving anyway.
Ombudsam Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I think we're gonna need more than one winger. i think it's a position in which we'll be blessed with genuine strength so there's no need to lose that. I think He'll be even better next season anyway. I genuinely don't get why he's put on so much weight though.
Ginu Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 can Gonzalez play RM? switching flanks with Kewell during a match would be boss
stressederic Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Wonder what'll happen to Zenden. He was looking pretty good and playing well just before his injury, took him a while to get going right at the start of the season and did put in a few awful performances, but was looking a very useful player.

Stevie H Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 (edited) It only works against the weakest opposition. i agree. we dominate and control games more with sissoko destroying in the middle and giving xabi time and space. gerrard is also more effective on the right against good sides. matty Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 We need a top class left back. A carbon copy of Finnan would do me.
