Champions League winners Liverpool are up for the World Team of the Year at the prestigious Laureus sports awards announced in Barcelona on 22 May.

Athlete Paula Radcliffe will be hoping to emulate Dame Kelly Holmes in taking the Sportswoman of the Year award.

Last year's winner Roger Federer is again nominated in the men's category along with Ronaldinho, Tiger Woods and cyclist Lance Armstrong.

Motorsport stars Fernando Alonso and Valentino Rossi are also on the list.

Radcliffe faces stiff competition in the women's category, with tennis star Kim Clijsters and Swedish golfer Annika Sorenstam among the nominations.

Liverpool will be up against this year's champions League favourites Barcelona in their home city, the powerful New Zealand All Blacks rugby team and the all-conquering Renault Formula One champions.

The nominees were selected by more than 700 sports writers and editors around the world.

Winners will be chosen by the 42 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy.

Are these the awards that put the Mancs as the second placed team of the century, behind Franco's Madrid? And we were no where.
