If the estimated cost is now double the original, the figures just don't stack up.

 

I reckon we'd be better off levelling Anny Road to the edge of the park, building a big new stand with all the facilities and a multi storey car park on the Vernon Sangster site. Once that's done we could look at redeveloping the Main Stand.

 

The new stadium has 'Wembley Style Disaster' written all over it.

Thats all been looked into. It would make even less sense financially than building the new stadium apparently. Its all been cost assessed according to Rushian.

For one thing you wouldn't get all the new facilities in one new stand. Then how could we level the main stand and keep operating at Anfield ?

I'm unconvinced. That was when the new stadium was expected to cost £80 Million, the price has now doubled.

 

Regarding the benefits of all the new facilities, I'm still unconvinced - for example I can't imagine a hotel in anfield being a big success.

Its not just for matchday. The new stadium will be full of conference and hospitality rooms, people will have weddings and parties there. You need a hotel to support all of that.

This is fast becoming a joke and we are ending up looking like the FAI in Ireland with their stadium plans.

 

United looking to go to 75,000 and we are building a NEW stadium (well trying to) and they are trying to limit it to 45,000 because of traffic considerations ffs! I mean Liverpool and that other blue team is a huge tourism attraction for the city - surely they should be doing all they can to accomodate the club that is the superior at attracting visitors to that area of the city.

75,000 - 45,000 is 30,000 tickets each game that Liverpool will lose in revenue over United, that is just NOT acceptable.

Read the thread again. There's no question that the stadium will be limited to 45000 seats. Its just part of the proceedure that means the council tie us in to redeveloping the infrastructure around the new stadium which is being planned anyway. Its not an issue.

Its not an issue then, sure thats why there is no delay and the costs haven't doubled then?

That's not been the reason for the delay or the costs doubling.

 

The massive increase in the price of steel is one reason for the increased costs.

Not all steel, only the high grade stuff they use in complex structures like stadiums, etc and it is coming down again. Not a lot, but it is reducing in price.

I said last week that a friend who would know said that our stadium plans were 'decending into farce'. Certain people on here suggested that I was wrong becuase of imminent investment. I have seen little over the past week to change my mind that said friend was right.

 

And no doubt little to back up your point as well

The resubmission is likely to have as much to do with an overhaul of the design to upgraded new materials and a single-tier Kop.

 

I don't think there's much to worry about.

 

Still unconvinced, I just can't see that being a huge success. People would rather go for city centre venues or somewhere with good transport links for conferences.

 

I'd be interested to know if they're booked up for Weddings as things currently stand as well.

These will be as good as if not better than anything currently available - there is also the 'Kudos' and appeal of holding such things at Liverpool's ground. As for weddings, it's reasonable to assume local and red fans from all over the world will want tbe married there.

There are no futures contracts on steel - I'm guessing that you wouldn't normally do that anyway until you have the necessary planning permission.

No, but you'd be making yourself a massive hostage to fortune. We have been exploring and planning for new composite and new variant alloy products to negotiate this problem with anyway.

No, you wouldn't. But it would be prudent to have it in place.

 

What if permission were refused and the Club was sitting on a huge loss in the futures markets? Now that really would give people ammunition to have a go at Parry - "LFC p***es away Rafa's transfer budget in futures market" wouldn't be the best headline.
