Another theoretical post

I think it's fair to say that when Ged sold Robbie to Leeds United he alienated himself from a fair few fans at the time, and even now some fans may say that the transfer was wrong.

So my question to you lot is;

If Robbie is not offered a new contract would some fans be upset with Rafa ?

Myself, I was one of those fans that felt Robbie had to at the time but still felt sad at his departure. And whilst it's great to see him return, if Rafa decides that there is no contract for Robbie then so be it, Rafa is the man.

No. I'd like him to be kept on even as back-up. But if Rafa has other ideas and priorities - so be it.

More or less my view as well.

I'm just loving it seeing him back. I thought it was wrong letting him go at the time - although in hindsight, maybe it was a kick up the 'arris he needed - I thought he'd started to establish himself as a good link player; even now, people fail to see there's so much more to his game than goals.

I can't imagine Rafa not offering him a contract, he's looked the sharpest of any of our strikers since his return & his overall play has been good enough. Imagine him with a decent pre-season behind him.

He'll practically play for free anyway

Give him a 6 month deal with a at least "10 Goals clause" which would trigger another 6 months. And then, in Arsene Wenger's words - "Go year by year", another 6 months, 6 months, 6 months....

I think it's fair to say that fans who were alienated by that weren't the sharpest knives in the red box.

Best piece of outgoing business this club has ever done.

As for Rafa, he can do what he likes with Robbie.

Not sure I'd be bothered either way. Those that would get irritated are too daft to fret over.

I think the fans are trusting Rafa at the moment, more so than any manager in recent times. He hasnt really made any major mistakes in buys. I could go through all the mistakes and make excuses for them but i cant be f***ed.

If Rafa chooses to let Robbie go then so be it. We all love Robbie, and maybe he could play on next year. But we as supporters have to support the manager first and formost.

Gotta agree with Macca.

What he offers to the side far outweighs what we'll have to pay him in wages.

As the Americans say "it's a no-brainer".. another season for God please Rafa.

p.s. and in answer to Kev's initial question.. Although I'd like him to stay, I wouldn't be that upset if Rafa chose not to give Robbie another contract. Hopefully this would mean we were making way for two quality strikers instead.

Agree with all that.

Do you know what he is being paid in wages though? I thought the rumoured figure was circa £20,000 a week - not the cheapest for a 4th choice striker to be honest.

Is he qualified to provide any coaching/training?

he is fowler. It appears he is qualified simply because of that.

Well they could get him badged couldn't they, then let him coach on. Would be a good coach for youngsters with his experiences in and out of football and also I heard Sammy Lee was a good connection between players and management, though thinking again, I guess we don't need someone in that role at the moment, do we.

Hearing Robbie's recent pronouncements apart being prepared to be patient, and respecting the managers selection policy, and even being philosophical over whether or not Rafa decides to keep him, I'm minded of his vitriol against Gerard Houllier in his autobiography.

I wonder if Robbie realises the irony of his recent statements, given that Rafa is 'guilty' of virtually everything he accused GH of. Maybe Robbie's grown up and learned some humility. Certainly the rampant ego that came across in that book seems to be shrinking.

I hope he stays and enjoys an indian summer at the club, and that one day he proves himself man enough to apologise to Gerard Houllier.

I don't follow.

seriously, I don't get it. The only thing fowler seem's to have going for him as a coach is being local and popular.

I could see someone like Owen be a much more succesful coach. At least he could teach players how to develop new aspects of their game, adjust their playing style etc.

Fowler is a talented player and what more?

why would that make him a good coach? I should think someone who has manages to sustain his success and keep himself on the top would make a good coach.

There is a world of difference between someone like Fowler and McAllister.
