Someone told me today to "not be too suprised if cisse stays". Aparently there is a very slim chance that rafa may keep him if he keeps worknig hard and plays well for the remainder of the season.

Cant see it myself, probably just rafa dangling a carrot for cisse to get the best out of him for the remaining games to benefuit both us and his price.

Although I think hes a top quality player based on what ive seen of him for france, and also before we signed him when i watched most auxere games for 2 seasons, i cannot for the life of me see any hope of him staying. He just hasnt done it for us(for many reasons) and rafa has never expressed any interest in keeping him, infact, hes shown interest int he exact opposite.

Anyone else heard out about this?

Oh, and another intersting thing this fella told me was that rafa is at this moment in time only interested in looking for 2 players. And they are both strikers! Hopefully that means that he allready has the right mid tied up :Z

Well if he is only looking at strikers at the moment then he must see Cisse as an option for RM. Only thing that makes sense in the above scenario.

if he scores and plays well in all the remaining games, maybe.

unlikely though,

If morientes stays and cisse leaves... it would be based on favouritism...

cisse brings much more to the team as a striker, keeps the centrebacks on their toes, and creates space for others, even when he was playing like crap, hes speed was a worry the other teams had to keep an eye on, thus giving space to players like stevie, garcia, crouch, kewell etc...

i know i've always liked cisse but imo he's much more of a danger man that el moro will ever be at this stage in his career

...or he's already agreed a deal for a RM

It's about how Rafa wants the team to shape and play. He bought Morientes with his methodology already in mind, so unless he feels with better supply and assistance Morientes can do a better job, he would go - there is no favouritism except for the way he wants the team to play. Josemi and Nunez have already gone.

If on the other hand, he thinks Djibs is learning to fit into this system and is working hard to learn how he wants him to play - then he may keep him - he may think if the improvemnet continues that he has nothing to lose by giving him one more season, which if it's better than this, he could up his price at the very least. However - flipside, if he thinks 'he's trying his best but it isn't working' - he will go.

Rafa wants to win and win big. He'll base his decisions accordingly. Anyone who thinks he favours Morientes above the good of team and winning per se is a fool, and may want to explain how come Moro has spent so much time on the bench then.

No it wouldn't. Cissé has been the biggest waste of £14m ever. Ever.

Now Nando has certainly not set the world on fire and he is only marginally more impressive than Cisse overall. But he has a much better track record.

Favouritism being shown by you or by Rafa?

:applause: Just what I've been thinking, but knowing the board the response would have been "b*ll***s!". This create-space-for-others-and-keep-defenders-on-their-toes lark obviously is a nuance too complex for some to understand (surprisingly many it seems) ...

Whoever goes, maybe both, maybe one of them - the decision won't be made on who his ickle favowite pwayer is. Because I get the distinct feeling Benitez isn't as childish as many of us fans.

Cisse brings more than Morientes? Don't think so. Neither bring enough, it's that simple, it doesn't have to be about favourites.

Neither bring enough, agreed, but Cisse is nudging ahead on points.

It all depends on which new striker fulfills the alternate roles required to Rafa's plan. Cisse may yet stay as Rafa it trying to create a more versatile player - winger or forward, but with pace to burn, whereas Morientes still provides excellent link up play, his end product is a bit short for the League.

Interesting last number of games. Who out of Fowler / Moro / Cisse will get more opportunities, more playing minutes, more goals?

If you forget the costs then Morientes has been a bigger disappointment to me than Cisse, he came here as a proven goal scorer and has looked nothing short of pants ever since.

How the occasional moment of above averageness can count as 'showing more' is beyond me!

He's been slow, lethargic, weak on the ball, awful in the air and couldn't hit a cow's @rse in front of goal.

If he stays I'll start reading Charlie Nicholas's columns more closely!

Also the original post contradicts itself a bit, if Cisse is staying them why are we looking at 2 strikers?

I don't think cisse has worried defences anymore than morientes this season

Not really. I suspect we would get more money for Cisse. Personally I hope they both go, but would favour keeping Cisse out of the two. He just seems to score more regularly despite not playing striker a lot

Both can go, and I hope they do. Neither has shown that they can deliver in the Premiership. IN Nando's defence he know how to play football, but this league doesn't suit him, as for Cisse, he's an utterly clueless footballer who can run (very) fast and kick a ball hard. One decent game where all he did was push and run against a very poor full back is not a reason to keep him.
