koppper Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 So he scores about the same as fat Frank does from midfield (ducks for cover).
Cobs Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 So he scores about the same as fat Frank does from midfield (ducks for cover).erm, no.
koppper Posted April 4, 2006 Author Posted April 4, 2006 erm, no. I should say that he scores the same when fit. This season it's 18 to 7 in favor of Fatty. I'd imagine Fatty outscores him in the previous 2 seasons, as well as having more assists. If you want me to go back to 2002 - that's pushing things a bit. (ducks and let's loose the dogs of war).
Flasher Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I'm more concerned about how many Owen misses, and the fact that he'll go ages without scoring, then score 2 or 3 in one game. Much rather he spread his goals around in different games, i.e. was consistent all season. (1 goal every other game rather than a hat-trick one in six games)

(1 goal every other game rather than a hat-trick one in six games) I'm really concerned by that too, remember how he scored two against Arsenal at Cardiff and those two in Rome were a bitch too. If only he rationed his goals it would be much better. Find a stick to beat him with if you must but make it better than that.

If only he rationed his goals it would be much better. Find a stick to beat him with if you must but make it better than that. So be it. I stand by it. In a league game it's still only three points, whether or not he scores 1 for a win or 10 for a win. I'm sure if you could get the stats which counted how many games he scored in with a ratio for the number of goals it would look amazing. No doubt. I personally prefer to see a striker spread the goals around. As I said above, scoring 1 every other game rather than popping up with a hat-trick now and again, particularly in the league. ps. He doesn't play for us and sold us down the road. Get over it.
monkey puzzle Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I'm over it, I know he is gone but to state that he doesn't spread his goals and a reason why he isn't good enough for us is simply b******s, the guy scores important goals in important games time after time. Apparently he sold us down the river - I just wish a few other players would sell us down the river then - but £8m for a player who also gave us 150+ goals when he didn't cost a penny doesn't seem that bad. He also helped along the way to winning the UEFA Cup in 2001 and played a small part in a game in Cardiff were Arsenal wiped their dicks all over us. If he comes back, in my eyes I'll be pleased but if he doesn't I'm sure Rafa will bring in the right man. I think the people who have a go at him should get over it......
Will Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I don't know the full facts, but I do know that on 12th April 2002, Michael Owen scored in his hundredth different reds game as we beat Fulham 2-0 at Anfield. It was his 134th reds goals in a total of 254 games. So it's not as if all his goals came in a few games...

Will Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Well, thats killed that argument then. Well, it killed the argument that he didn't spread his goals. Unless you beg to differ.

Peculiarly, now I realise you weren't joking, and infact were being serious, you've given me the biggest laugh I've had in ages. I'd attempt to counter your argument, but I just can't - I'll need to get off the floor long enough to type it. No, actually, I think I'm beginning to come round to your way of thinking. If we had stopped scoring against Birmingham, say at 3, we could maybe have traded the following 4 goals for 1 in the FA Cup Semi against Chelsea ??
Ombudsam Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 (edited) I want him back but i remember him being a streaky goalscorer. Score 7 in 5 then none in 4 then 4 in 5 then none in 3 then 8 in 6 then none in 5 Edited April 4, 2006 by sammya
Will Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I want him back but i remember him being a streaky goalscorer. Score 7 in 5 then none in 4 then 4 in 5 then none in 3 then 8 in 6 then none in 5 Even if that were true, so fecking what?
Ombudsam Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 jesus.... another Owen thread.... they should stick a warning in the title Even if that were true, so fecking what? i don't know. i'm responding to the position that he was a streaky scorer. There was no value judgment in my post.
Flight Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Only scored just over 20 goals in the two seasons since he left us. He's past it.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I want him back but i remember him being a streaky goalscorer. Score 7 in 5 then none in 4 then 4 in 5 then none in 3 then 8 in 6 then none in 5 so we win 5 on the trot when he scores if the defence holds up. sounds brilliant. Nobody just scores every game or every other game. What is it, 8 away goals for henry of his last 56 goals? No matter how you put it, scoring goals in any way is a hell of a lot better than anyone else who scores less. end of.
Zoob Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Tomorrow's two birds with one stone thread: "Should we swap Owen for Gerrard?" I think this would really move us forward, afterall, Gerrard is a great player and key player, but we have Momo and Alonso, and Owen is a great traitorous goal scorer, who did great things while secretly plotting to destroy the club.
