Leo No.8 Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Who would people give their votes to? Probably Fabregas I suppose, but our Momo should be in with a shout...
Maldini Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Rooney would have to be a resounding favourite wouldn't he?
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Is there an 'official' cutoff for eligibility, age-wise?
Cobs Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Is there an 'official' cutoff for eligibility, age-wise?yes
Ostrich Man Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 He's nailed on for "Granny Shagger of the Year"only cause casey isnt eligible
Zoob Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I actually think Fabergas has been consistantly good all season, and as is the want of the press, they've only just got wind of it, and have started over-hyping him recently, even when he hasn't played especially well. Sissoko should clearly be in with a shout, but I'd be very surprised if he makes the list - normally the young player list only consists of British players, but I'm sure they'll make an exception for Fabergas. I remember being astounded that Riise wasn't considered after the great first season he had (I think it was his first season...)...

I remember being astounded that Riise wasn't considered after the great first season he had (I think it was his first season...)...Actually, like many of the up-and-coming Arsenal kids, Fabregas really WAS between anonymous and quite awful for large patches earlier in the season. It's only since they tonked Boro 7-0 that the kids got some confidence and he in particular has stepped up a gear. Before that, the more fickle Arsenal fans were talking about getting rid of Wenger, Fabregas, van Persie, Senderos and saying 'Reyes was a waste of money' 'Henry clearly doesn't want to play for us anymore and Pires has totally lost it' etc. In fact, in the new year and much of January, they were saying things like 'the only decent player we've got and the only one who seems to care is Lehmann' How quickly they (and the press) forget.
matty Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Fabregas ought to get it. He's been better than many here think. I know Arsenal fans who've been impressed with him throughout.
Coyler Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Momo's 21, sure -- what's the age limit for young player of the year? Can't see him winning it anyway, I can't see anybody outside the club thinking he's player-of-the-year material.
stressederic Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Fabregas and the other youngsters at Arsenal did really struggle earlier in the season, but they were let down horribly by some of the established players at the club. Just take the game at Anfield as an example, none of the younger players were really that bad but the likes of Pires, Ljunberg, Henry, Gilberto etc were absolutely shocking.
jimmylibel Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Quick point but the PFA Young Player of the Year is voted for in January I believe. The hype around Fabregas has only really got going over the last month. Worth bearing in mind.

I'd say he is worth every penny

If it's sposed to be a player of the calendar year then they should announce it all in January. otherwise fix when it's voted for. Besides i thought they'd pushed back when they voted for it

Ombudsam Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I thought they pushed it back from December ot January? In which case "Their fik!"
fred milne Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Just take the game at Anfield as an example, none of the younger players were really that bad but the likes of Pires, Ljunberg, Henry, Gilberto etc were absolutely shocking.I thought Fabregas was dire at Anfield.
Cobs Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 If you're under the age of 23 you're eligible although i guess certain players by their elevated status could stop being considered for it before they turn 23
