psl Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 (edited) It sounded to me that from my spot in the pub that Alan Parry said Sami Hyypia has played more games than any other Premiership player this season. Can anyone confirm this? If so, it is some achievement for a player of his age who many suggested was no longer good enough for us. The man is a true Liverpool legend and one of the best signings we've ever made. Edited April 3, 2006 by psl
Benitez Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 It sounded to me that from my spot in the pub that Alan Parry said Sami Hyppia has played more games than any other Premiership player this season. Can anyone confirm this? If so, it is some achievement for a player of his age who many suggested was no longer good enough for us. The man is a true Liverpool legend and one of the best signings we've ever made. yeah, they defo said that in the commentry. And the moment they said it, Sami was grabbing his chest and coughing violently after he got that knock, and he looked like an old man But he's been excellent this season. Reckon the arrival of Pepe Reina as sweeper-keeper has been the best thing that could have happened to him at this stage of his career!
CarraLegend Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 He is/and has been absolutely immense for us. An incredible signing.
Alonso Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Hyypia has made 52 appearances for us this season, all starts. Carragher has 50, followed by Gerrard on 48 (4 as sub)
psl Posted April 3, 2006 Author Posted April 3, 2006 I would ask you all to please excuse my incorrect spelling of the man's surname in the title of this post. I appreciate that it is an unforgivable sin and one that thoroughly pisses me off when others do it. I also note the distinct sense of irony given my statement that he is an all time legend at the club... I've learned again never to attempt a post on here whilst working!

I also note the distinct sense of irony given my statement that he is an all time legend at the club... I've learned again never to attempt a post on here whilst working! Stick to posting about Kronkamp in future, you can't go wrong with his name... As for Sami - I've always been a big fan of his; when it became fashionable to blame all the team's woes on Hyypia and demand a 'pacey centre half' (got f*cking sick of hearing that phrase), I always said it was ridiculous and we'd be worse off without him. I was at Hillsborough the day he made his full debut, and I remember telling people 'we've got a proper centre-half this time' after years of Babb, Ruddock et al. Since the big man arrived, we've almost always been solid defensively. It's not just his aerial strength, reading of the game and defensive qualities even though they are what stand out; it's his organisation skills and steadying influence on the players around him which will be missed most I believe when he hangs up his boots. Fortunately, like I've said, I believe Sami will be around for a few years yet. He's got no pace to lose, and he's playing as well as ever this season. If Martin Keown can still have been performing at the top level into his late 30s, I don't see why a consummate professional and far better footballer in Sami Hyypia shouldn't. Absolute legend - delighted to see him performing so well in a team holding a high line, which is what all the divvies said he couldn't do. Sami past it? My a***...
Mike Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 one of the greatest ever defenders for liverpool football club.
psl Posted April 3, 2006 Author Posted April 3, 2006 one of the greatest ever defenders for liverpool football club. Yep. I'd say he was definitely in the top five.
fred milne Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Yep. I'd say he was definitely in the top five. That's an interesting question. He certainly got some competition - Yeats, Smith, Hughes, Thompson, Hansen and Lawrenson.

Lee W Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Quality, quality defender and nearly up there with Hansen and Lawrenson for me. Hope he gets the title winners medal he deserves.
badtodabone Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 everything a proffesional footballer should be and more.in my eyes a true legend
KS Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Notice the way his aerial clearances is always directed somewhere, he doesn't just clear the ball... He wins the headers, and has the composure to place them as well. Class. Legend. One of my favourites.
shanks59 Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 For me, Sami has been our best player since the turn of the year
