Footballer of the Year

There's a good chance that Carragher will be in the top three of both the writers Footballer of the Year and the PFA. However, what are the odds that a Chelski player will win both again?

He'll never win but i believe Hyypia has been the best CB in england this season..

Between Rooney and Stevie for the Players. But with the press one, Fat Frank will no doubt get a look in.

i agree it'll be Rooney or Stevie for the players one

reckon Henry may get the Press one if Arsenal continue their current form to the end of the season

I'd love to see him shortlisted and he probably will be, but the man this season has been Steve Finnan.

Joe Cole, Makelele and Gallas before Lampard.

Rooney is a shoe in to win it, although he has been good, it is not like the obvious choice of Lampard or Terry last season, but he is the golden boy this year as far as the press are concerned.

Otherwise, honourable mentions to Toure at Arsenal. Nolan at Bolton. Pederson at Blackburn

So there you have it ;)

The PFA nominations will already be in by now.

They are normally submitted by February.

Tough call this year. Dont think any one player has been substantially better than others.

Think Carragher and Gerrard should both be shortlisted, but I reckon Terry or Lampard will win it.

Rooney and Joe Cole are probably the only other players in with a chance imo.

Football writer's player of the year is stupid and pointless, unless like the mancs in the carling cup, one of ours wins it ;)

i think they get it 'right' more often than the Players tbh - maybe it's the timing of the votes

I remember Ginola winning them when the mancs did their paltry version of the treble. The only thing that made me smile that season.

Anyone thinking one of our players will win either award is living in cloud cuckoo land. Only ManUre, Chelski* and Arsenal players ever win these things, such is (a) the stupidity of the footballers that vote in the PFA awards and (b) the bias of the football writers who vote in their awards.

Who was the last Red to win either award?

*As of last season

Steve Finnan should get our player of the year.

Stevie Gerrard should get our player of the year, and to suggest otherwise is laughable. there have been many other good performers, infact a case could probably be made for any of the regular back 4, Reina and and Alonso, but Stevie G has been absolutely immense this season for us. his contribution in game after game is extraordinary.

Gerrard has been our best performer but I'd stil love to see Finnan win it - not like he'll be in the running for World Player of the Year any time soon!!!! ;)

I heard a vicious rumour that the Chelsea players were told not to vote, and just threw their voting cards away. Could have a detrimental effect on our players chances.

Gits, wouldn't surprise me at all.

If that's true it's a f***ing joke. They really are sad basterds. If i was one of their players, and Mourinho or whoever it was, told me to not vote, i'd vote anyway. Why would you be that petty as to not vote for anyone for player of the year?

No - he has been superb 99.9999% of the time - but i would put both Carra and Sami ahead of him this year, if only just.

when were we last the best team in the country, Einstein?

This is not about who plays for the best team, moron. Otherwise why have Ginola and Les Ferdinand won the PFA? Or Zola, Ginola (again), Klinsmann and Chris Waddle of mighty Sheff Wednesday won the writers award?

Our players have performed well enough to warrant one of these awards in the last 10 years. Fowler, Owen, Gerrard all should have won either on at least one occasion.

Because you can't vote for your own team-mates. Which means they would have to vote for other players, which would have meant that their opposition for these awards would have received more votes. Increases the liklihood of Chelsea players getting the top prizes or being in the team of the year.

What do they hope to accomplish with that, other than bring more ire and scorn to their door?

See above.

why is why anyone not voting should obviously be disqualified from receiving any votes in turn.

As a parable, it works well .

"And it happened that there was a great census of all the players at that time in England. And all the players were told to choose that player which was the shining player amongst them. And the Mourinhites were instructed not to partake in this great voting, and they did tear up the cards of voting they had been given, and that into very many small pieces, and did enjoy it."

Pricks.
