SkippyjonJones Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 If we could only replace one of our strikers next year then who would you let go? I can see a situation where we could get more value financially by letting Morientes go and benefiting more by playing Cisse as an out and out striker (assuming that we have a replacement on the right) and adding one player up front. I get the feeling that Crouch will get another year at least in the red shirt.
Falconhoof Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Pongolle can come in for Cisse and we can buy a replacement for Morientes. I can see the tendency now after a couple of recent goals and performances that everyone is forgetting the crap they've dished out for the most part of the season. People are being generous but if the right fee is there i'd sell both. Crouch is not in question.
alias75 Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Theres something about Cisses recent form that gives me a lot of encouragement, his pace is a great assett in the PL and we have some fantastic passers of the ball that can make the most of that especially away from home when teams will come at us more. For that reason id be inclined to sell Morientas and Pongolle and use that money to bring in 1 forward. That would give us Crouch, Fowler, Cisse and the new guy with Gerrard, Garcia and Kewell all being able to play as a 2nd striker in certain games, i think thats plenty of options.
Ombudsam Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Former what? The first out of the two options, i.e a flash in the pan
Ratters Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Pongolle can come in for Cisse and we can buy a replacement for Morientes. Strange cannot rember that many bad minutes of Cisse as a foward oh hang on thats because he was on the wing. That being said I do think we need to get a replacement for him I dont think he will make it.
CaptainXabi Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 I honestly can't see how people would rather keep Morientes than Cisse. I just can't, but to each his own.
Guest jjasonuk Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 (edited) I think its so difficult to really compare the two (Cisse & Moro) as Cisse is fast and needs through balls where Moro is slow and good in the air. I would keep Cisse and play him up front, its not too diffierent to Heskey being played on the wing when we all knew he was much better up front. But, as always.... In Rafa we trust. Benitez Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 sell mori, buy someone good. like Moro was then. Of all the 'big' signings Rafa's made (ie them that have cost a few mill), he was probably the most 'guaranteed to be good', yet it's all the others that have been good, and he's the only one that's struggled. Easy innit being a manager NHE - don't see why Rafa all of a sudden would decide to give Cisse a season up front just to see if it works out.
urban Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Sell:PongolleMorientesLe Tallec Buy/Keep:CisseFowlerCrouch
windy city red Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Its a difficult question really. Wasnt it mentioned that Moro was carrying a slight injury over the period of time when he was underperforming? Guess it can be argued that theres a chance he would perform better next season the same way Kewell has after finally getting over his injury. Unfortunately, his speed and strength on the ball are still lacking and I am not sure if those attributes can improve much more especially at that age. Why not keep cisse and pongo? Two pacy strikers are not excessive in my mind and I think they bring different things to the team. I would give cisse one more season if its possible.
Case Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Assuming that Rafa believes he can still do it, he wants to stay and commits himself to working hard, I'd give Moro till January '07 to be honest. In November and December he was fantastic in partnership with Crouch, just when the team as a whole were playing well. He's scored as many goals in recent weeks as Cisse has (but without having had to take a penalty), but becuase Cisse scored at the weekend, a good goal, admittedly - he's "flavour of the week" again. Yes, Moro hasn't played consistently well for weeks, but I still believe he could do, and there is no way that Crouch can play every game next season. I think our formation more often than not next season will be big forward, small forward and Cisse can't be the "big" forward. Let's be honest, Rafa is playing Cisse at right wing, NOT up front. Do you really believe that he'll be first choice there next season? I like the fellah, but it's better for us and better for him if he leaves. Moro too in Jan 2007 if it doesn't work out.
wacko Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Cisse will be on his way if we can shift him. He has shown few signs of improving. I think we should sell Moro, too, while we can still get something for him from a Spanish side. I fear another season like this one and he'll be worthless.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Sell Mori, buy someone who doesn't miss from two yards out.
liverbird04 Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 if we sell morientes in the summer we will get at least some money back ,one more year and nothing will be comign our way plus I think his contract is only 3 years anyway? .All depends on rafa of course and the money situation as always ,another question to ask is what can morientes do that fowler can't ? is there much between them ?....both have had recurring injur problems.
tag Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 depends on:1- How Rafa rates Fowler & Pongolle.2- Any solid buyer willing to meet our valuation of Moro/Cisse3- What kind of transfer kitty Rafa gets FWIW, I'd shift both Moro & Cisse shld we be able to get better replacement/s.Crouch, Fowler, FSP and A.N.other for me. (plus a RW) This summer's gonna be fun....
tag Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 We need two forwards, FSP isn't good enough. he'd be a good shout for our 4th striker. Not to mention being further down the pecking order shld Rafa play with a 5 midfield formation.
Maldini Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 he'd be a good shout for our 4th striker. Not to mention being further down the pecking order shld Rafa play with a 5 midfield formation. He's not good enough, no point in havin him in the squad, get someone else in who'll score goals and force Fowler and Crouch to fight harder.
Benitez Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Sell Mori, buy someone who doesn't miss from two yards out. therefore, surely - sell Cisse, buy someone who doesn't miss an open goal at Old Trafford?
Ian Garro Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 He's not good enough, no point in havin him in the squad, get someone else in who'll score goals and force Fowler and Crouch to fight harder. Is right. Time to stop all this 'he may come good' business. We need to carry our momentum in catching Chelsea on, no room for passengers. I'd sell Morientes, as for whatever reason he just doesnt do it for us - and sell Cisse as a) we'll still get decent money for him this summer and b) he's crap. Only Fowler and Crouch to stay.
Guest PaulMcC Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Cisse has to go. He's lazy, has a crap attitude most of the time and is a really stupid footballer. His touch is terrible. He's not good enough. Our worst forward imo.
Ombudsam Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 therefore, surely - sell Cisse, buy someone who doesn't miss an open goal at Old Trafford? TBF I think he and most of us would shift both but that wasn't the question in this thread mori would never get in position for a two yard finish huh? we all just saw him do it.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 (edited) I'll retract my careleless comment and say instead: Morientes very rarely gets in position for tap-ins. Edited April 4, 2006 by Anders Honoré
