Gunga Din Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 if Hearts win their semi today, thy will be in europe. 4 seasons ago they finished 7th in the Unibond, behind the likes oF Marine. Scottish football really is w***
libero Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Not that I am going to defend Scottish Football but the Chairman at Gretna has spent a lot of money(by Scottish Standards) on experienced SPL players who took the chance to drop down a couple of divisions for the cash.I think there are only a couple of players left from their time spent in the Unibond League.

So they are a kind of Scottish lower-divison Chelsea then?
libero Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 So they are a kind of Scottish lower-divison Chelsea then?To a certain extent yes but the Owner/Chairman who is all for the supporters having a say in clubs he has given a donation to supporters trust that has contacted him I know that he gave £10000 to my local teams (East Fife)supporters trust to buy shares in the club. He is a bit of a character as well and insists on sitting in the crowd instead of going into the directors box, there was a good shot of him in the crowd yesterday when it went to 3-0 and it looked like he was getting inundated with phones calls and texts. Looks a right scruffy git as well.
Euphrates Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 I read the recent article in the Granuid about him, seems a class bloke. What other owner would want to work in the ticket office? They said he even spends time dividing the ten pound notes into separate groups, one of scottish notes, one of english notes, because it makes the bank teller's job easier.
libero Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Spent a lot of money my a***. Their most expensive player cost £10k. For the Scottish Second Division believe me that is big money, its more the wages, he has picked up a lot of ex SPL players prepared to move for the wages alone. Kenny Deuchar used to play for East Fife and is a fully qualified Doctor (Jeff Stelling on Soccer Saturday enjoys mentioning him as the good Doctor ) if he wasnt on decent wages do you honestly think he would be playing??
SKITTLE Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 They've had sod all to beat in the lower divisions to be honest. It will get tougher for them next season, although they will probably spend a few more quid to strenghten the squad.Good luck to them,I'd rather see the money going in at the lower end of the spectrum. They also have plans for a new ground according to their website.
