David Hodgson Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Very surprised to see no thread in honour of Djibril's MOM performance. Or not, actually. Credit, where's it's due I think. He may be sh*t, fairly frequently, but he has banged in a bout 20 goals, all comps, this season. Maybe with a bit more love.....

Stevie H Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 we finally saw glimpses yesterday of what he was like for auxerre. shame it's probably come too late to save his lfc career. had a cracking game though and did pretty much everything right.
Benitez Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 credit where it's due to Djibers - he had an excellent first half. Great touch for his goal especially! Not man of the match mind
Mike E Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Yes, credit where credit is due. Cisse actually looked more than just fast out there today. Signs that he was actually starting to understand football. Probably his best footballing performance for us IMHO. Keep it up lad.

Guest kop75 Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 no smarta*** this fella http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/past_player...ayers/hodgson2/
Kite Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 sorry mate have to disagree. I will agree that he hasn't applied himself as well as he should - but its quite a simple fact, no ifs buts or whatever, that he has been played out of position since November. It is also a simple fact, regardles of how much people criticise, that he is our 2nd top scorer - even though he's been played mostly out of position or not at all. Compare his match time to Crouch and Moro. Look, I've said time and time again, I am NOT saying he is the answer to our goalscoring prayers, but it was bloody crazy that we were all going beserk at our lack of goal threat for several weeks when, for all his faults, at least Cisse is that - a goal threat.I thought yesterday's match should have well and truly put that idea to bed - he scored and made an assist when played wide right, when put in the centre during the second half he became much more anonymous and far less effective. It's a very relative thing with Cisse, we've seen so many bad performances from him that I think it's easy to get excited when he does some stuff right. He did some stuff right yesterday and looked very effective during the first half, but to call it a "Man of the Match" performance is being a bit exciteable
Ombudsam Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 The kid ripped through their defence countless times. credit where credit is due and all that
Whitey Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 He finally looked a threat, and it was all about playing up on their back line and using his pace. I saw glimpses os a Fowler/Cisse combination that might flourish... Being a cynic though, the team overall performed fairly average yesterday - I was hoping to see us continue with the pacey stuff - so did he stand out because we were poor? ....<awaits slagging>
Nerik Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 The thing I liked most is that he was actually using his left foot yesterday. To score he put it beyond the keeper with his left and scored with his left foot. He then volleyed a chance over with his left foot in the 2nd half. His running was much more intelligent than usual too.

Just because he has a good game on the right it suddenly proves that the theory he is being played out of position is not accurate??? Ok then. And in fairness the whole team took on a different shape/attitude 2nd half yesterday, hradly Cisse's fault. Also, Im not getting excited or calling him MOM. Re-read my post. despite all what people have said, hes our 2nd top scorer having played out of position for most of the season, even then not playing that much or as much as crouch or moro. IMHO, if he'd played striker as much as morientes he'd have 20+ goals by now (5 more than currently). Edited April 2, 2006 by rickyjohn

The manager doesnt know what he is doing?2. Cisse has been hard done to you choose
Billy Dane Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Rafa doesn't want to play a system to suit Cisse - fair enough. Cisse has struggled to fit in with Rafa's style of play - shame Even with the above, if Cisse had played up front in place of Morientes he would have scored more goals. Will it stop him leaving, probably not. Should Morientes go with him, definitely.
David Hodgson Posted April 2, 2006 Author Posted April 2, 2006 no he wouldnt and there is a reason why he hasnt been playing 1. The manager doesnt know what he is doing?2. Cisse has been hard done to you choose Rafa has been vindicated for his team selections all season. That's not debateable. But...you can't say Cisse wouldn't have scored more goals if he'd had more games. He's got a good goals to games average and logic says that would probably continue.
Guest Scot Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 For Robbie's goal yesterday I was just about to scream at Cisse for a poor shot, the camera work on the tv was really shoddy yesterday Me too, Kev. Cisse played really, really well yesterday. If we would get that or something like it on a regular basis he's a keeper.

Guest Jack Bauer Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Would have been better if he didn't revert to his usual form and shoot when he should have crossed later on.

IMHO, if he'd played striker as much as morientes he'd have 20+ goals by now (5 more than currently). If Cisse had played up front all season he probably would have got more goals alright, but Gerrard would still be in single figures and we'd probably be lower down the league Me too, Kev. Cisse played really, really well yesterday. If we would get that or something like it on a regular basis he's a keeper. He played well alright, but it was still nowhere near the level I was expecting when he arrived. I think he was also helped by Robinson having the worst game I've seen anyone have in the league this season.
anny road Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Would have been better if he didn't revert to his usual form and shoot when he should have crossed later on. except if you watch it again he had no way of knowing Fowler was with him
Mad_Fer_It Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Showed he can do a job for us against wba...we just need to play to his strenghts... good passing from xabi allowed him to have one of his better gameshes been getting better in the last few games, more awareness towards teamates...i wouldnt be in a rush to sell him unless we get a decent offer... 7m upwards dont know if its me, but all the lads seem to like him now, whereas a couple of months ago it seemed he wasnt appreciated on the pitch...
fyds Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 I agree about his recent improvement generally. I'll be happy with what ever Rafa decides is best come summer.
