Maybe he meant he'd play Kirkland ahead of Reina as in just in front of him. Pepe patrolling the goal line and Kirkland on the six yard line.

A fellow fan asked me today why Benitez didn't pick Zenden anymore.

Some people.

best keeper youve had in f***in ages.

Is undoubtedly the truth.

As a Manc, I responded to your post on this in particular, as van Nistelrooy and Park of late have had the same problem.

The one constant in all of the above silliness, best example being :

"Sissoko's s***, too"

"Anyone who thinks otherwise, is just brainwashed by the press...I'd play Kirkland ahead of Reina..."

..is the constant reference to 'non-english, non-british' players. Unthinking, parochialism and casual national/racism.

Reina has been quite open in his surprise at the amount Strikers get away with in the premiership compared to Spain. He said last week that Rafa has told him to punch outside the six yard box. Yesterday he dropped one that def should have been a foul but wasn't given. After that he obviously decided to punch everything, a fact that was ignored by the commentators. His punches were fine anyway. Reina's boss!

Had to laugh at the commentators, "Why did he punch that" as he lay on the ground after getting creamed by Ellington...that's why he punched it.

People need to change their mindset about keepers, the way the ball moves now punching is a much better option than catching, how many goals have we conceded from Reina trying to punch the ball?

more to the point, how many 'keepers actually attempt to catch the ball these days? it's nigh on impossible to catch shots and crosses like 'keepers used to because the new ball swerves and moves so much. i'm well happy with reina's 'get the f*** out of my area' approach.

Yeah, a lot of keepers just don't come to deal with crosses, Shay Given being a case in point.
