I used to love Rob Jones. Bought from Crewe and chucked in the deep end against Man U the day after. He had Giggs in his pocket. It was a brilliant start!

First time I saw Rob Jones was watching his debut on a big screen in the Bondi Diggers Club in Sydney. It kicked off with the ex-pat Mancs after, really did feel like home.

Carra was horrible at right back until right after he got the injury, when he came back and started to play with much more guts when going forward. And then got moved to centerhalf shortly after.

 

This is the guy that Henry picked out as the weakness in the England defence IIRC before Euro2004, but I don't think anyone with a brain will put Carra (at centerback) and weak point in the same sentence...

Rob Jones - he does owna few nurseries - I think his wife actually does most of the day-to-day business though. He has one in the village I live in and on the opening day Digger, Jamie & Louise and a few others cam down - best publicity ever for a playgroup I bet.

 

He does a lot of school holiday soccer schools round here as well.

He was far from crap but equally he wasn't at his best in that position. I always thought he was best at left back... until Rafa moved him into the centre.

 

I think one thing to bear in mind is that he basically took over at right back from Babbel who was arguably the best right back in the world during his only proper season with us... so anyone would find that a hard gap to fill.

I always seem to remember Rob Jones playing as a left-wing back - with McAteer on the right - in a 4-5-1 formation.
