I beg to differ Murph,he was decent for about a season when at the a***,and everybody thought he was a world beater. If you didn't look decent in that side, you never would!

Ray Parlour is precisely the type of player you build a championship winning side upon.

Tony Adams is precisely the type of player you build a championship winning side upon. Ray Parlour is the chap on the bench.

That said,"It's only Ray Parlour".

That still makes me laugh.

But seriously, you need players like Ray Parlour if you're going to win the Premiership. He's no where near being a world beater, but he's the type of player who can come in and out of the first team across a season, but every time you pick him, you know he's going to give 100%, do his job well, link up with those around him and probably pick up maybe 10 goals a season.

Players like Phil Neville were United's version of Parlour (without the goals obviously), and I'd probably say Geremi would be Chelsea's version.

That season when Parlour was The s*** he really was The s***. How he never went to the WC ahead of Rob Lee that season I don't know. He was avg the rest of the time though.

What's the "It's only Ray Parlour thing"? I've got Fantasy Football League in my head for a reason.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think you get championship winning sides where players don't give 100%,I reckon pretty much everybody does.

He was a useful squad player,in that I agree, but people got waaay carried away with how good he was.He was lucky to play in such an great team,in my opinion.

The same goes for Neville.

I agree both were incredibly fortunate to be in those circumstances, but I do think that they are the type of player every championship winning team needs. Of course you need players like Van Nistelrooy, Henry, or Lampard *shudder* but its the squad players around the edges that can prove crucial. I have a sneaky feeling, in future seasons we might look back on Steven Warnock as being not so disimilar from Parlour or Neville. Not a world beater, but with the potential to be hugely important in a title winning side.

In the FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea, Sky had an alternative Fanzone commentary team, with Tim Lovejoy for Chelsea and Bradley Walsh for Arsenal. Lovejoy uttered the immortal words "Don't worry it's only Ray Parlour", just as Parlour picked up the ball, turned and slammed it into the top corner.
