Guest Assassin Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 What do you all really think. I really couldnt give 2 fecks if Owen makes the England squad. What worries me is he will get picked in the hope of him being fit in time at the expense of others. A downside of him not being picked will be hearing "Micheal Owen would have scored from that chance" everytime someone misses a chance
Ronnie Whelan Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 (edited) Michael Owen would have written a better post... Edited March 27, 2006 by Ronnie Whelan

What worries me is he will get picked in the hope of him being fit in time at the expense of others. Why would that worry you? If there's hope of him being fit he should obviously go ahead of Bent or whoever of that quality happens to be the man missing out, as he is simply that much better a player.

The lad is goals goals goals. Spose bent could do a schillach but i don't want to risk it. He'll be fit anyway, you know mikey and England.

If there's hope of him being fit he should obviously go ahead of Bent or whoever of that quality happens to be the man missing out, as he is simply that much better a player. If Owen hasnt played for his club by the end of the season the Swedish one (S1) should not pick him for England at the expense of a fully fit player. But I fear it will happen as the S1 has already started to make noises about the possibility of taking an extra forward. So it appears someone else, not neccessarily a forward will miss out at the expense of an unfit Ingerlund Mikey.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 an unfit Owen is still better than the alternatives.

I believe it will be a midfielder who loses the chance to go because of too much sentiment surrounding Owen and Ingerlund
Guest Anders Honoré Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 it's not sentiment to bring along the only player who scores regularly for England.
Guest Assassin Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 an unfit Owen is still better than the alternatives. Maybe you would like to explain in detail exactly why an unfit and game rusty player would be a better choice than a fit player. I realise you will probably say that Owen is Englands best forward ever but it doesnt warrant being in the team at someone elses expense if he is not fit it's not sentiment to bring along the only player who scores regularly for England. If he is not fit enough to be there it is!!!
Guest Anders Honoré Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 It warrants it if he is still a better option when unfit than the fit alternatives. He's probably not england's best forward ever although he has a good chance of finishing his career as England's alltime top goalscorer, but he is undoubtedly the best Emglish goalscorer of this generation out there at the moment. He has played in four major international tournaments, has more than 8 years of international experience, played in two of the best leagues in the world as well as the CL for several years. There is no question that he is a better option to bring in even half fit than someone like Bent who has shown promise and nothing more. If he is not fit enough to be there it is!!! If he is not fit enough, he is injured. If he is not injured but half fit, meaning he can still play, then no, it is not. It is common sense to take along such a player, when the alternatives are as unproven in the game as they are. Perhaps if it were Del Piero, Totti, Cassano, Vieri, Inzaghi, Toni and Gilardino competing for places, it would ake sense to leave out your half fit star player. Not when the alternatives is Bent.
ricflairandy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 i think crouch and rooney would be a better option.

There really is no justification to take a player along to the biggest competition in football if he is incapable of participating in every due to fitness problems over a fully fit player. I see you keep mention Bent as being the player who would lose out, like I said earlier I think he will be there as insurance for Owen. If Owen is unfit Bent will be there in his own right
Benzo-13 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Ashton is a proper alternative to most players mentioned in regards to replacing Owen in the squad.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 an unfit Beckham went last time (or was that the Euros?) and was garbage
Tones Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Unfit players are no use to anyone. In which case i hope he plays for England and they go out at the group stage.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 an unfit Beckham went last time (or was that the Euros?) and was garbage and an unfit ronaldo became top goalscorer last time.
st.johns Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I don't think Mikey should play for any Prem. clubs. They should just trot him out for the Internationals-I'm sure he wouldn't mind.
Andy @ Allerton Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I hope England get stuffed and knocked out at the earliest opportunity There was a time I would have got behind them - but that time is past.
Will Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Are we talking about our former player who doesn't actually qualify to play for Wales?
Cobs Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Are we talking about our former player who doesn't actually qualify to play for Wales?by virtue of being born in England, of English parents ? I think so.

Should be playing for Wales (and Liverpool). by virtue of being born in England, of English parents ? I think so. Where exactly was he born? They always say 'Chester' but a) Chester is actually part of Wales*b) a few people I know live in 'Chester' but their houses are actually in Wales * like the rest of England (or at least the good bits)

The family have lived in Wales for most of Michael's life. Hope this helps.
cymrococh Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Good enough to live in, but not good enough to play for eh? Horrible little judasc*nt.
yellow jumper Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 The lad is goals goals goals. england have scored 21 goals in the last three tournaments, owen's got 4 of them. rooney managed that in the last euros alone, and contributed much more than owen beyond that. goals aren't a problem. england should be looking at crouch-rooney, and a way of integrating their attacking midfielders into a solid, ball-keeping unit.

Would you really do that if you were in charge of england? Would you drop Michael Owen for peter crouch?
