What do you all really think.

I really couldnt give 2 fecks if Owen makes the England squad. What worries me is he will get picked in the hope of him being fit in time at the expense of others.

A downside of him not being picked will be hearing "Micheal Owen would have scored from that chance" everytime someone misses a chance

Why would that worry you? If there's hope of him being fit he should obviously go ahead of Bent or whoever of that quality happens to be the man missing out, as he is simply that much better a player.

Owen's better than Defoe and Bent and i'll be gutted if he doesn't go. The lad is goals goals goals. Spose bent could do a schillach but i don't want to risk it.

He'll be fit anyway, you know mikey and England.

If Owen hasnt played for his club by the end of the season the Swedish one (S1) should not pick him for England at the expense of a fully fit player. But I fear it will happen as the S1 has already started to make noises about the possibility of taking an extra forward. So it appears someone else, not neccessarily a forward will miss out at the expense of an unfit Ingerlund Mikey.

an unfit Owen is still better than the alternatives.

I think Bent and Defoe will go, one of them as insurance for Owen. I believe it will be a midfielder who loses the chance to go because of too much sentiment surrounding Owen and Ingerlund

it's not sentiment to bring along the only player who scores regularly for England.

Maybe you would like to explain in detail exactly why an unfit and game rusty player would be a better choice than a fit player. I realise you will probably say that Owen is Englands best forward ever but it doesnt warrant being in the team at someone elses expense if he is not fit

If he is not fit enough to be there it is!!!

It warrants it if he is still a better option when unfit than the fit alternatives.

He's probably not england's best forward ever although he has a good chance of finishing his career as England's alltime top goalscorer, but he is undoubtedly the best Emglish goalscorer of this generation out there at the moment.

He has played in four major international tournaments, has more than 8 years of international experience, played in two of the best leagues in the world as well as the CL for several years.

There is no question that he is a better option to bring in even half fit than someone like Bent who has shown promise and nothing more.

If he is not fit enough to be there it is!!!

If he is not fit enough, he is injured. If he is not injured but half fit, meaning he can still play, then no, it is not. It is common sense to take along such a player, when the alternatives are as unproven in the game as they are.

Perhaps if it were Del Piero, Totti, Cassano, Vieri, Inzaghi, Toni and Gilardino competing for places, it would ake sense to leave out your half fit star player. Not when the alternatives is Bent.

There really is no justification to take a player along to the biggest competition in football if he is incapable of participating in every due to fitness problems over a fully fit player. I see you keep mention Bent as being the player who would lose out, like I said earlier I think he will be there as insurance for Owen. If Owen is unfit Bent will be there in his own right

Are we talking about our former player who doesn't actually qualify to play for Wales?

by virtue of being born in England, of English parents ? I think so.

He's too good for the sh*t that is England.

Should be playing for Wales (and Liverpool).

Where exactly was he born?

They always say 'Chester' but

a) Chester is actually part of Wales*

b) a few people I know live in 'Chester' but their houses are actually in Wales

* like the rest of England (or at least the good bits)

Owen was born in England, his Mum and Dad were born in England, his brothers and sisters were born in England, he has no Welsh heritage (apparantly a bit of scottish on his Dad's side). The family have lived in Wales for most of Michael's life.

Hope this helps.

The lad is goals goals goals.

england have scored 21 goals in the last three tournaments, owen's got 4 of them. rooney managed that in the last euros alone, and contributed much more than owen beyond that.

goals aren't a problem. england should be looking at crouch-rooney, and a way of integrating their attacking midfielders into a solid, ball-keeping unit.

Would you really do that if you were in charge of england? Would you drop Michael Owen for peter crouch?
