After reading the thread about Allardyce, I wanna know what exactly is the deal with having an English manager for England? Frankly I don't know why people like Sam are making it such an issue. But if anyone can, I would most certainly like to hear the case as to why the next England manager must be English? And why do people like Sam seem to think that nationality has some bearing on your ability and eligibility to be manager? I frankly can't understand it.

And when they want an English manager does that mean they want someone who's managed a team in the EPL? To what extent are they willing to go for an English manager whos managing a team in say the J-league or some other less known league in some distant corner of the world? The likes of Curbs and Sam havent managed big teams before, nor have they had international experience, who is to say that they would be better than an English manager managing a Japanese league side or some other less known league team?

No. Best man for the job regardless of nationity. there are simply no English coaches up to the job at this time with the necessary track record and experience.

They make it an issue as theyed rather be proud nationalistic twots than actually win something.

I would say yes if the candidates have similar statures. Otherwise it would be weird to overlook, say Capello, in favour of Allardyce.

Yes, the FA should in no way appoint and English manager, as they are all cr*p.

Is unfortunately correct at this moment in time - and for the foreseeable future.

It should be a consideration but it shouldn't be the first consideration as Allardyce et al want it to be.

If there's two well matched candidates and one of them in English then that should be the deciding factor. However as there's such a gulf in class between Phil Scolari and McLaren (as an example) then I think it shouldn't be considered until that gulf is closed.

Why don't they just abandon English players too? Get the best in, team would do better.

but it's not against the rules to have a foreign manager. Where does your point lead us? We had a Scottish head of our (English) F.A was that against the spirit of the game too.

The English managers aren't good enough. they shouldn't get a leg up by accident of birth. If they were good enough then obviously that would be the ideal

What gets me is English managers have often been given the position when not being qualified, yet there is this feeling that English managers get discriminated against all of a sudden.

Did anyone think Hoddle and Keegan were the best we could get at the time?
