Keita Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman has revealed that Robbie Fowler is not exactly thrilled at the moment. "I speak to Robbie a lot. In fact I just did on Monday," Macca said. "He was not too happy only playing the last two minutes against Newcastle and then having to play 45 minutes of a reserve game later." However, McManaman was quick to add that he was just showing some Scouse humour and that his best friend is very much settled and happy to be back at Anfield. Macca is convinced Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez will not hesitate to offer the striker an extension to his current six-month contract. "I was joking about Robbie being pissed, but he would obviously have preferred to play more of the match against Newcastle." "I have no doubts that Robbie has done enough at Anfield already. Officially he has only scored one goal so far, but he had a legitimate goal against Charlton chopped off and was unlucky with two other disallowed goals before he did score against Fulham. "Robbie is obviously not going to score as many goals as before, but that is because of the way the current Liverpool side are set up. Rafa's team are very strong in defence and tend to build from the back rather than play a more attacking game like Arsenal or Manchester United." "To be honest, Liverpool did not sign Robbie because he was playing well at Manchester City so they probably took a chance by bringing him back to Anfield, but I think it was a 'no lose' situation as Liverpool needed a goalscorer and Robbie guarantees goals." When asked whether a move back to Merseyside would have tempted him from not retiring from football, the former Galactico answered, "Not really." "I had a fantastic time at Liverpool. Sometimes it's not so good when you go back. People tend to remember you for the wrong reasons." However, he strongly believes that this will not happen to his best mate. "He is a Liverpool boy and it is a wonderful move for him. Out of Crouch, Cisse and Morientes and Fowler, I think Robbie is one of the best." "He is playing well and everyone is happy. I can see him being there next year."
Guest Kev Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Rafa and the club are doing a great job with Robbie, they are still working on his fitness. In fact he did a few laps of the pitch with Paco at the end of the game yesterday. There aren't many games left but everything is being geared up with next season in mind I reckon.
Spike Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Macca would do well to shut the f*** up if he wants the best for his best mate

hideNseek Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I don't think calling Macca a t** is an over reaction. If he's got Robbie's best interests at heart he should shut his stupid mouth.
Leo No.8 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 (edited) McManaman I find irritating for two reasons: 1) He left on a bosman (petty I know - but who cares) 2) He thinks he's cleverer than he is He's like the Scouse Graeme Le Saux - revels in this tag of being smarter than the average footballer because he reads the broadsheets now and again, when in actual fact he's not at all. I just don't like McManaman, regardless of these comments. He annoys me. Edited March 27, 2006 by Leo No.8

Guest Red Mist Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Some people can never see past his move to Real when it comes to the subject of Macca. Yet the same people are practically begging the equally treacherous Owen to come back to us. They're both the same Macca and Owen, although I would say Macca is less culpable since we tried to do the dirty on him behind his back.
Guest ritchie_50 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 (edited) Robbie would have been disappointed to be left out of the Newcastle game and not get on in the derby but in the last 3 games we've scored 13 goals so he'll know he can't argue with the selections. I think he'll start next week at West Brom alongside Crouch, with Garcia out on the right. Fans have a downer on Macca because he left us for a bigger club and on a bosman but it's easy to forget that Fowler and Macca made the 90s bearable, without them we'd have been no better than Everton. Bootle Buck Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Fowler has conducted himself brilliantly since he has been back. He has kept a low profile, worked hard and will wait for his chance. For McMannaman to even joke about him being unhappy is in bad taste. He obviously must need to get his name press or something. I would rather he commented on his mates at the Bernebeau and kept his opinions of Fowler to himself. (tongue-in-cheek or not)
