kop205 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Whilst a 10 man team is controlling the game. They should be left alone. As change can upset the balance Why do you put. Full stops in the middle. Of your sentences.?. Only mistake Benitez was made was putting Morientes instead of Fowler near the end. I'd just love to have seen their faces...
smithdown Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Never mind our subs, what about theirs? Moyes was shown up like a complete divvy when he got all three ready to come on, they score from a corner then he tells em all to sit down again. Just when they might have had an impact after we concede as well. What an amateur. Even the arabs in the pub were laughing at that. When they finally do get on after making no more headway, one gets sent off, one goes looking to get booked as soon as poss and the other one...who was the other one again? Oh yeah, big name signing Simon Davies. Dunno where he went. Bottler!
Falconhoof Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Whilst a 10 man team is controlling the game. They should be left alone. As change can upset the balance can't a change upset the balance just as easily with 11 men ? What coaching manual are you getting that from ? I think it was more down to the lack of better options on the bench.
Guest AnfieldGrass Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I still think Rafa getting Stevie sent off was part of the game plan, the lad needed a week's rest.
Ombudsam Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Our second half was seriously different class I was sort of wondering if Kromkamp would come on for Luis Garcia but I think we were stretching them with having two sort-of forwards on the pitch. To bring on Kromkamp would have taken the impetus away from our attacking play. Luis was dead clever in how he played that second half positionally. dead clever We could've brought on a ceremonial striker It's what he's there for i spose. He's barely had a kick since scoring against Fulham. He's getting pongolled
Barnesy_10 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Kromkamp was deffo lined up to come on till Garcia scored then Rafa seemed content with the extra goal lead.. it was great to see that besides being a man down the players still kept going and worked hard regardless of the mid week game.. still buzzing about the display.
Scally the Wag Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I actually expected a change at halftime, with Kromkamp coming on for Luis... We were having to work very hard to stay with the game up to that point. I am obviously an even worse choice for manager than Ripley as El Boss got the same 10 to go out and up their play even further... Still coming down today: biggest buzz since Istanbul.

I called my brother at half time and we both thought Kromkamp would come on for Garcia at half time, and Warnock for Kewell a little later. The 2nd goal just killed them and they took 20 minutes to come to terms with the fact we were 2-0 up.
Mad_Fer_It Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 i was actually thinking how crap our bench was in terms of options...with stevie gone we had to keep a hold of the ball so crouch was never going to come off.warnock and kromkamp were never going to come in if the match was not done and dusted, finnan and riise are better options, kewell was playing well.we need more players like riise, zenden, garcia, gerrard who can play a number of positions if required. we couldnt have changed the game with no one from the bench, we werent going to play two strikers and thats the only way robbie couldve gone in, we lacked midfield options imo. we couldve play a midfield three of sissoko xabi and someone like zenden with kewell/garcia just below crouch/morientes but we didnt have that extra man, i think we need a kevin nolan type player that might fit that central midfield role giving us options both attacking and defending to a certain extent, xabi stays in the middle of the field (thats where he is more effective) momo runs back, stevie runs foward, hamman stays back, box to box midfield maybe? thats what stevie used to be, now he stays foward more to our advantage. i think im just rambling here, hope u guys find my point hehe

I'd just love to have seen their faces... Yes but it was that late and Fowler's that slow he would barely have reached the edge of their box before the whistle went, so it had to be Nando
Bootle Buck Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 (edited) I was surprised Hamman didn't come on after we went up 2-0. I thought Rafa may have sacrificed Kewell or Garcia. Shows that Rafa had confidence in our midfielders being able to hold on and possibly score another. Edited March 27, 2006 by Bootle Buck

Ronnie Whelan Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Not bringing on a sub after SG's sending is an example of how superior rafa is to the average manager. Most would react by changing the shape of the side and brining on another midfielder to redress the balance in the middle. In my book, that doesnt always need to be case as was proven on saturday. I accept that our starting formation aided the situation but nevertheless Luis didnt really drop deaper at all. Of course, the players deserve the plaudits as much as the manager.
