Imagine that you have a piece of rope the same length as the circumference of the earth at the equator.

 

If you added 1mile to the rope and could then suspend it around the equator, how far in cm would it be from the surface.

 

I've tried to work it out and somehow got to 246metres :wacko:

 

To help, the earth's circumference is 24902miles and the diameter is 7926miles and PI is 3.1415926535
